Mining operations

Okay, so on all of these fancy mining ops that you guys do...

Is there any way those of us without many skills can participate? Is there a certain ship we should be shooting for to help?

All I have at the moment is a Tristan (frigate), but I could buy an Iteron 2 or whatever the hell is available at Cruiser 1.

Typically we need miners, haulers and protection. I have helped haul with a Caldari Badger. This is an easy and quick way to help but I have a feeling that the mining ops are going to out grow Badgers for haulers pretty quickly.

It also seems that we mine in .6/.5 space so if you can handle the rats at that level than your good to go. Next mining op I'm in I want to run protection if we have enough haulers. That would be in a Caldari Kestrel Frigate, doesn't sound like much but it really kick alot more ass than a frig should.

Okay, so an Iteron 2 is of use for hauling?

I've never done it before - what do the haulers do exactly. Empty cargo cannisters and take them back to a starport?

anything. depends on what you want to do. If you wanna help mine then put a couple miner 1's or eps-gaussians on your tristan and join up.

Sure people are impressed with the guys that have mining barges and huge haulers but every little bit helps.

There are some frigates that are better than mining than others and if you have the skills you could pick one up. Someone else will have to recommend one to you, I just throw mining lasers on whatever ship I have and go with it.

If you want to haul then get whatever race specific industrial ship is available to you and put some cargo extenders and the biggest afterburner you can fit on it. Be prepared to go slow...it's not glamorous. The upside to this is you can trade things between stations on the side when not mining. In bulk you can make a nice chunk of change in just a few hops.

Cruiser 1 won't get you an industrial ship though, you'll have to go for the faction industrial skill.

Finally, when you get to cruiser 1, I'd train it up to 2 or 3 before you actually buy a cruiser. At least for the amarr cruisers there is a big difference between what you get for the skill at lev 1 and at lev 3.

yeah, you basically make runs between canisters and the base of your choosing.

In general here's what I do when hauling for a mining group.

1. Equip a mining laser on my hauler for when I'm caught up, which will be increasingly less as the group gets faster at mining.

2. Set up bookmarks so you travel faster between the canister that people are jetcanning into and the base you are putting the ore.

3. Make sure no one is mining into an errant jetcan that you might miss.

4. Pick up stuff in the jetcans when you can fill up your hold. No reason to travel with a half load. If you can't fill your hold then start in on the nearest ore your group is mining for.

5. Check the market for ore specific and mineral specific prices.

6. Keep track of the people that come and go so that no one misses their cut.

7. Endure the "Your ship is so fucking slow jokes"

There are other things that people might do that are more efficient or different, this is just what I do.
