Backup your boot.ini before installing the premium content

I found a backup of it in the C:\WINDOWS\pss folder, but what that site describes works as well. I'm just glad I didn't restart before seeing this thread.. no XP CD atm.

Someone punch these retards in the FACE. Fucking idots.

How the fuck do you miss this. You never name things the same as major Windows files.

i was able to patch and can still log in with the mac client but it tells me my system cannot handle the premium graphics. (macbook pro)

Yeah GJ CCP for naming one of their files the same as a critical Windows system file. But, if people weren't noobs and didn't install games on their system partition, this wouldn't have happened.

LMAO at the first post in the emergency thread.

JUST AN UPDATE:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is apparently IMMUNE to this bug... I have tested this, so have my corpmates. If you have Win XP SP 2 (and you SHOULD) you should be just fine!

They already erased it but basically he was trying to convince XP SP2 users (basically everyone on XP) that they were safe and could reboot.

I wonder how many people rebooted before the moderators cought it

Cockfaggot should get bant.

This is why I wait 48 hours to patch anything, fyi.

My boot.ini was toasted. I used Helado's link to recreate it, but I haven't tried to reboot yet....(I'm at work and did this via VNC, so I don't want to risk a reboot until I'm at home... ;))

Glad I did fresh installs on both my systems. Though, I have screwed up a boot.ini file on my own before and fixed it pretty quickly.

Actually he's kind of right. The SP2 bootloader will immediately try to boot the first partition of the first disk when it can't find boot.ini. For most people this will boot Windows.
