Any of you guys run the game with an 8800 GT? Do you ever get framerate lag in massive battles?

I had to stop playing while I wait for my new card to get here, but I am just curious, because playing with an 8600 sucks ass during keep raids even on the lowest graphics setting it lags like hell making the game unplayable.

I just want to know what kind of performance I can expect with an 8800.

Rest of my system is pretty gimp by today's standards but here are my specs.

Opteron 170 - clocked at 2 gigs.
2 gigs of ddr 400 ram
2 WD raptor HD in raid 0

Think with just that card I will get decent performance or should I look into other upgrades also?

I have an 8800 GT, game runs great. REALLY REALLY big RvR battles (like 100 vs 100 people) lag it a bit, but turning off crazy spell effects or something minor like that makes it perfectly fine again.

I usually run smooth with mine but elmo and I had the same performance issues last night. It may have been my master rune causing the major problems since that was the only big change I made.

8800 GT 512Mb
2GB 800MHz DDR2 Kingston
SATA2 HDD
E6750 DualCore @ 2.66GHz
Windows XP

No problems whatsoever. Huge zergs give of course lower FPS (duh), but nothing huge.

I have the same system as Witch, essentially. I just put my graphics on "Fastest Framerate" and have virtually no lag, with the exception of loading an instance once in a while. Even when it gets pretty busy, it's still smooth.

something I used to do in wow for large battles, was turn off the extra character text. Seems to help in WAR too. Turn off guild names and titles for everyone. I left that stuff on only for the current target.

i had stuttering problems with my 8800 GT, 2 GB ram and XP.

I upgraded to 4 GB ram and vista and performance has been much better

In DAoC, the usual practice was to turn off ALL names, disable all spell graphics (except for Party), and lower the clip range just a few clicks. This usually helped, if not solved, the frame lag in large raids.

Make sure you have newest drivers if using NVidia tho. Helped a bit.

I have a Mac Pro octo-2.8 with 2GB ram running XP Pro in Bootcamp. With an 8800GT running at 1920x1200, all settings maxed in-game, everything set to application control in the Nvidia control panel I get a steady 70fps. I haven't tested any bigger scenarios with FRAPS enabled, but I would say that it probably never dips below 40-50fps. No stuttering at all except for loading a new area which would most likely be due to only having 2GB of ram. I'm thinking about getting more ram and Vista, but can't really bring myself to actually buy that particular OS.
