Are the mortality rate of all covid-19 variants equal? Symptoms appear to be less severe after Delta so there's a legitimate conclusion that mortality would drop off as the virus became endemic. Your observation is also at risk to survivorship bias--The most vulnerable and most likely to die did so during the onset of the pandemic.

...none of this speaks to the natural immunity the general population had also been building over time and certainly would have hit a tipping point after omicron, given the rate of transmission was vastly larger than anything prior.
