[(#)SOCCER] 2009-2010 Season Thread

So I go to ESPN to get more info and I see this..

Arsenal have rejected Barcelona's offer for midfielder Cesc Fabregas and insist they have no plans to sell their captain. Barca made a formal bid for the player on Tuesday night.

we'll get him eventually

the player always gets what the player wants, cesc and barça are destined to be together

i think rosell will pull it off after the W/C

They offered €35m but that is not even close to would take for us to sell. Add another €70m and we can let you eat some peanuts in the gallery while we think for a while.

So far we have brought in Chamahk, allegedly Joe Cole is signing anytime now and hopefully Wenger will look towards dealing with our defensive frailties given that Gallas is leaving. I'm sure Arsene is hoping Djourou will be fit and roaring for next season, but I still think we need a more experienced CD to pair with TV.

And of course the goal keeping situation... lets not get into that.

I don't think that even if we have Gourcuff lined up Arsene would elect to sell Fabregas. He is too close to bearing the fruits of his labor to let it all shrivel in the end.

Then again, in the modern day of sport and on top of the fact that it is a World Cup year, so many strange things can and will happen in the market this summer.

im guessing itll be martin o neill

I was under the impression Martin was pretty happy where he is. He's worked hard and enjoyed some good progress over the years. To up and leave that seems a bit odd. Especially with all the drama that would go along with Liverpool.

I'd expect Hughes to be in line for Liverpool possibly, but who knows.

im pretty sure you used the same exact line at the start of last season

but it's real madrid who will pay silly money + typical english premium + premium for liverpool losing a homegrown player + being one of two major stars of liverpool that could drive shirt sales at madrid

cristiano ronaldo 25 years old / 90 million -- 12.9m a year
kaka 28 years old / 60 million -- 15m a year until hes 32
ibrahomvic 28 years old / 75 million -- 18m a year until hes 32

gerrard is 30 years old. assuming a modern day player can maintain the top level of play till hes 32...that means a 40m deal for gerrard is already more than any of the above

so I broke down and just bought a Torres jersey for the World Cup

I just hope it gets here in time... I had to wait til the player numbers were released a couple days ago to do it

obviously by Torres I mean our very own Torres, not the Spanish brand of Torres

homeboy Sandro Rosell won elections yesterday and will be President of FC Barcelona for the next 6 yrs :]
