yea yea and lucas wrote the original novel, learned about messiah myth types, and rewrote the book to use that model. (which later became the original movie, and is now known as "episode 4: a new hope")

I have many of those Valerian comic books at home. I used to read them when I was a kid in order to learn French.

Lucas borrowed some things from them, but he probably borrowed more from 'Buck Rogers' and this other comic that I forget with a kid who falls asleep and goes to different worlds.

Thats been known for a long time though, and film people spend a lot of time going over all the old influences.

Joseph Campbell people. The Power of Myth

The main story of Luke's transition from boy to man is common to all peoples/cultures.

Yeah, we watched a video in 9th grade with him talking about Star Wars/a hero story.

Yeah, who remembers the part in The Odyssey when Odysseus was frozen in Carbonite?

My dad has a huge collection of French and Belgian comic books. Loved reading those as a kid, hiding under the sheets with a flashlight. I wonder where he keeps them now.

Little Nemo?
I'm not sure I see the link between that and star wars.
(On a related note, Winsor McCay was the freaking man).
