STUDY OF COVID BOOSTER SHOT BENEFITS FANS DEBATE OVER EXTRA DOSES
Quote:
Wading into an acrimonious debate over booster doses, researchers in Israel reported on Wednesday that a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine can prevent both infections and severe illness in adults older than 60 for at least 12 days.
[...]

In the new study, the Israeli team collected data on the effect of booster shots, based on the health records of more than 1.1 million people over age 60. At least 12 days after the booster, rates of infection were elevenfold lower and of severe disease nearly twentyfold lower in those who received a booster compared with those who had received only two doses, the researchers found.

The researchers acknowledged that their results were preliminary. ***8220;We cannot tell at this point what will happen in the long run,***8221; said Micha Mandel, a professor of statistics and data science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
[...]

[Looks like the author(s) had to add some more info to calm the reeee the article brought]
[...]

Therein lies the problem with the booster strategy, some scientists say: The tools to prevent hospitalization and death are already at hand. If the goal is to prevent infections, the nation will be stuck in a never-ending cycle of booster shots.

***8220;If you really use infection as an outcome, you probably need a booster every six months, which is unrealistic and unattainable,***8221; said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease expert at the University of California, San Francisco. ***8220;I don***8217;t care about symptomatic disease ***8212; I care about severe disease.***8221;
[...]
And the vast majority of people with severe disease are the obese, old, or people with 2 or more comorbidities. So, focus on those people and leave the rest of us alone, thank you.

12 days? Doesn't it take at least that long to take effect?

I got scared with all the COVID fear-porn lately so I went ahead and got 5 shots in 1 week just to catch up and even get ahead of the curve. I feel a bit dizzy but much safer now.

...

Does anyone else hear that music?

I think I tangled with COVID again last month. A little light headed, quick shot of chills/cold sweats, some bloody, mucousy, orangish diarrhea for a couple of days. Back to normal in 5 days. Never had anything quite like that before. Giardia was the closest but much worse. Got that in Africa. No fun. But, just out of the blue? Without introducing anything different or odd into the diet? Hmmmm.

can you guys go and get antibodies tested easily?

I'd like to check if I've developed antibodies but it's a pain to get the test done in Finland

The antibody tests are pretty lame. Very readily available. I mean, they do their thing but there is a pretty small window for them to show positive. You have to have a high level of antibodies. Meaning, you need to have been pretty sick. And, you have to get the test shortly after you have been pretty sick.

Perhaps there is another type of test that I am unaware of. One that basically tests your natural defenses. But, who would make a test like that? No one cares about that. What everyone seems to care about is selling more ****. We seem to be getting closer to the dams breaking on the antiviral/monoclonal treatment options. Almost as if it was on some pharmaceutical roadmap. Which it is. One driven by profit, not need.

I am glad to see monoclonal options becoming widely available here and I hope they will be made available elsewhere. Everyone needs a cheap oral or nasal to handle post-positive results. I mean, who wouldn't want that? Whether you have had a shot or not. Accurate home testing combined with readily available home treatments is the answer.

Why do the accurate home tests play a part? Well, many people can walk around with COVID and not have many if any symptoms. But, they may can spread the disease. I have a hunch that most of the COVID spread in the US has been from people who were not showing major symptoms. Or any symptoms. A bit like herpes or HPV. Not many people are ****ing and kissing with visible sores or lumps of cauliflower on their genitals. Some. But a lot of that is asymptomatic.

Herpes is similar to the COVID virius.

Utilizing the herpes virus¦ | Harvard Office of Technology Development

Utilizing the herpes simplex virus-based vaccine vectors to develop a COVID-19 vaccine

Researchers in the lab of David Knipe have constructed the HSV-1 based vaccine vector HSV-1 d106S. The vector can express viral, bacterial, or cancer gene products has been used to induce protective immunity in humanized mice against HIV and rhesus macaques against simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). Further, the vector has a low toxicity profile and avoids concerns with unintended off-target reactions observed with traditional viral vectors as a result of its non-replicating behavior.

Among the vectored antigens developed in the lab is the SARS virus spike protein. This vectored antigen serves as a proof of concept to integrate the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) spike protein antigen into the HSV-1 d106S vector platform, given the striking similarity between SARS and COVID-19.

The team is seeking industrial collaboration with COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers to ensure robust and persistent immune responses.

Developing the HSV-1 d106S vector with the SARS-CoV-2 virus spike protein antigen offers many advantages over existing vaccine vector technologies. First, although HSV-1 is a common infection, pre-existing HSV-1 immunity has little impact on the efficacy of the HSV-1 vaccine vectors in a mouse model. Second, the HSV replication-defective vectors induce a strong Th1 helper T cell response. As such, this vector induces a strong priming immune response. Finally, the d106S virus-based vectors express 10-fold higher levels of transgenes than adenovirus 5-based vectors, thereby enhancing the vaccine efficiency. From a production standpoint, the team has developed a complementing cell line that expresses Cas9 and a CRISPR guide RNA that eliminates parental virus, so recombinant viruses are almost pure in the initial progeny and can be constructed quickly. Collectively, the HSV-1 d106S vaccine vector platform could be used to rapidly make a COVID-19 vaccine to aid in the fight against this global pandemic.

Yeah - it's all about the patents. I still can't find an answer to whether my body contains any patented sequences of DNA.
