Can somebody explain to me how changing my profile picture to a cartoon character is going to save a child from abuse? This fad is pretty stupid. Is an angry abuser going to see my cartoon profile and go "hmm I guess I won't beat my child today. I love cartoons."
 
I don't know. How does wearing pink save people from breast cancer? How does not shaving for November save people from prostate cancer?
 
I would like to propose a day of silence to support lesbian, gay, and transgendered children who are suicidal due to abusive alcoholic parents.

Ok that makes a little sense to me. But and correct me if I'm wrong, when you see those ribbons or stickers or magnets don't you have to purchase them for a dollar or something then that money goes to breast cancer?

You can steal them. But the act of wearing them won't change anything. Just like how in the NFL players could wear pink things for October. I doubt many of them purchased the items themselves and weren't given them for free.

people wearing pink and people growing mustaches for november makes people aware of the situation. When people are aware they donate money. Movember this year raised more than 60 million dollars for prostate cancer research. I'm sure breast cancer awareness month raises double or triple that easily. This cartoon thing is just some FWR: FWR: FWR: PASS THIS ON! shit.

People don't just suddenly become aware when they see someone wearing pink or growing a moustache. People knew about them before seeing someone wear pink or grow a moustache.

It's all about raising awareness. Maybe someone will ask you "What's with the cartoon?" and then you'll spread the word. Same thing with pink ribbons, yellow wrist bands, and November mustaches.
 
My status today: "Change your profile pic to your favorite genitalia until january 1st. This is to prevent discrimination of porn stars."
