Cataclysm has just been dull and I'm glad it's almost over. It just felt so uncreative and basically just the exact same plot as wotlk. Replace Arthas with Deathwing, Scourge with Twilight's Hammer, Argent Crusade with Earthen Ring, everyone rallies to destroy bad guy, etc. Most of the game was rehashing places you've already been, bosses you've already fought. The new stuff was boring and felt detached from any real development of story.

Yawn.

I think the big problem was having everything scattered around. There was no new world beyond an ominous gate etc and none of the new zones were connected or tied together really in any way so it just felt like "oh ok now I go south of Tanaris and now I go back to Hyjal and now I go beside Wetlands whatever boo".

We needed a new world with new factions/races and a new Capital city. There was no Shat/Dal and being back in good ole Org/SW with the ability to just warp wherever we pleased made the game too quick and simple. 5 levels is not 10 just because you double the XP and the instances were all rehashed and un-interesting as well.

In Wrath I was torturing people with hot pokers and making people commit suicide. Entire legions were being poisoned and I got to be a Death Knight which was fun as hell. The story was exciting and entertaining and the instances for the most part were at least meaningful (fuck HoL/HoS).

Launch us to another planet again or another continent. Make more things newer and more enjoyable; stop kiddyfying the game so much.

(Don't worry minime it is all good bro)

The entire end of the game will take place in that little cave beside Org.

YOU WENT THERE AT LEVEL 10 IN 2005.

YOU NEVER.

FINISHED.

THE JOB.

The game hates me. It's like it reads what I already have and only offers it. "Oh you like brewfest ram?" "Yes I already have o.." "HERE BREWFEST RAM BOTH DAYS" "wait no more ra.." "GUESS WHAT?!? RAM TOMORROW TOO LOL"

Spoiler

The T13 raid sounds like it will actually be fun. *crosses fingers*

I think the biggest irony is out they toted since WotLK and inventing and creating new ways to "tell a story" with the phasing technology and scripted events, and yet for the most part Cata hasn't really had anything good stories to actually tell...

I'm not all about making spectacular, edge-of-your-seat, full of twist stories. Just something that is actually tells a "theme" story that progresses through quests to some end-goal.

The story behind 4.3 completely reeks of unexpected rushes. Like they are aware of TOR and GW2 and given their new developments they are rushing on cata while working overtime on the next expansion to get that to compete with them.

There is an assload of phasing in Cata, it is just less noticeable.

The gobber start zone is like pulling fucking teeth btw. Just terrible.

Never bothered with the starter zones on either side, honestly. I still feel Vashj'ir was the best-made zone, and it was a complete let-down when they cancelled the Abyssal Maw raid. It is more amusing because the whole thing seemingly didn't have anything to do with Deathwing. Also I vaguely remember how they were going to throw Azshara in here as more of a secondary villain and that clearly got canned. Probably initially intended her to be the tier before the end, but who knows now at this rate.

I'm not arguing there was less phasing or anything, simply that Blizzard reps (CMs or whatever) lauded making use of phasing to tell a better story through quests and how they had worked it in during Wrath and NOW they had it down good but ultimately the stories they are telling now are either shitty or don't make sense.

In the overall theme of Cata Uldum made little sense and almost zero incentive to go and learn other than "it's where you go from 83 to 84 before the highlands". Hyjal felt like they were going to do something else but then last-minute used it to recycle an old raid boss and a cheap shoe-in to a tier of raid content. Deepholm was good, a bit more fleshing out would have been nice but all in all it told a decent tale. Highlands was lackluster at best, the whole route to get there was pretty entertaining and DID tell a tale but once you got there and set up shop with your respective faction there were no real links to the other hubs. It was more "Hey just go fly around and see if you can help whoever with whatever, LOTS OF EVIL going on so maybe you should do something about that..." And certainly no real quest-based leading into the Bastion.

I still feel Vashj'ir was the best-made zone, and it was a complete let-down when they cancelled the Abyssal Maw raid.
With Blizzard having the ability to see just how many people skipped out on Vashj'ir questing in favor of the faster and more compact Hyjal leveling, add in the fact that most people absolutely hated doing Throne of the Tides, and that's probably part of the reason they scrapped Abyssal Maw.

The only reason I ever went to Vashj'ir was to try getting the X# quests achievement on my main, but I barely made it halfway through that number before I couldn't take the zone anymore and gave up. Now if I go to Vashj'ir it's only because it's cheaper than buying stacks of Azshara's Veil herbs on the AH and I hate every minute of it.

The storyline I don't care about at all, I'm just glad that with the exception of Throne of the Four Winds I've enjoyed all the raid content I've seen in Cataclysm. The fights are unique, some are easy people will argue but Blizzard definitely put some time and thought into almost all of the encounters. For a 10man with only 11 players to pick from (and only 3 of which have alts, none of which we've used this tier) it's been challenging and fun more often than not. The people on this forum like Pure who cleared 7/7 hardmodes in a couple resets might disagree, but with a casual raid makeup and schedule I've more than received my money's worth.

I was getting our raid's first legendary staff and I skipped through all the cinematic portions of the quest in favor of getting back to doing things that were more fun to me. I liked the Nexus portion of that questline, though I have no clue what the quest text said or what lore was involved it was actually challenging and required a respec for me to finish the very last portion of it.

Patch 4.3 Interview with Greg Street (Ghostcrawler)
Below is a quick summary and the full thanks to Simca. Be sure to read it so that you don't miss anything! (Extra info via Joystiq, Eurogamer, TenTonHammer, and Tankspot)

Deathwing Raid
-The new raid is called The Dragon Soul. It contains eight bosses, and boss 7 and 8 are both Deathwing.
-There will be a mount reward for killing Deathwing.
-Deathwing will only drop weapons.
-Heroic Deathwing will eventually be made easier after the top guilds kill it so that more people can experience it.
-Tier 13 will not be available at all from valor points.
-The new legendaries are two daggers (main hand and offhand) that are only usable by all three Rogue specs. -Combat Rogues will be made to use these daggers as well without a DPS loss. The questline will revolve around the pure black dragon (from the egg in the Badlands) and features several Rogue-centric elements.
-Melee classes will be getting a buff that is only active in the new raid to help them compete with ranged classes.

New Five Man Heroics
-You will enter the new 5-mans and raid in Caverns of Time.
-The first new 5-man is called "Endtime" where Nozdormu will show players the future if Deathwing wins.
-The second new 5-man, "Well of Eternity" is a journey into the past, the War of the Ancients specifically, to help Thrall recover the Dragon Soul to use against Deathwing.
-The third new 5-man, called "Hour of Twilight", has players escorting Thrall in present day to Wyrmrest Temple, where the final battle against Deathwing will take place.

Looking for Raid
-Looking for Raid probably won't share a lockout with Normal and Heroic raids.
-Looking for Raid gear will be stronger than the new five man heroics, but weaker than normal raids.

Other
-There will be raid melee buff across the board. The attack power buff will apply more to melee attack power than ranged attack power.
-Tank rotation changes that are related to survivability won't be in this expansion.
-Epic gems will drop in the new raid in Normal and Heroic only. Each player gets a geode when a boss is killed which has a small chance to contain an epic gem, most will have rare gems. It is rare enough to take all of 4.3 to replace all of your red rare quality gems with red epic gems.
-Firelands was nerfed so that players could see the content and continue progression instead of hitting a wall in heroic modes.
-"Quite a few" new profession recipes will be added.
-Northrend will require 2/3rd of the experience it does now, making leveling alts faster.
-Corrupted Ashbringer won't be available for transmogrification from any vendor.
-Old PvP armor will come back for transmogrification.

Yay more leveling buffs for altitis!

So yeah. 4.3 should be pretty standard, except more easy-mode shit.

5-mans give more VP; Looking-For-Raid tool; 3 sub-tiers of T13 armor... I mean seriously. At least I'm going to be able to max out both of my toons without having to make a decision of which one to grind for.

I hope the raid has some fun fights. Otherwise it's going to be a lame patch.

Seems like Blizzard panicked and went back to being super casual friendly, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. As someone who has never been that interested in PvE primarily due to the whole guild and commitment thing, I think the LFR tool is neat. Being able to experience the raid content in a casual environment and on my own time is pretty cool. Don't see why hardcore raiders should care seeing as they'll still be the only ones with the best of the best loot and achievements. Assuming 4.3 will be out before Dec 20th, I'll give it a shot just to check out the raid at least.

I can't wait to hear the complaints about LFR. I had spent some time attempting to organize pugs for Firelands a few months ago (even before those initial nerfs) and after about a month of talking with people, making schedules, etc. I realized one thing.

People just want to be carried.

Most of the people I attempted to organize would simply find a friend in a casual-progression guild to let them tag along for free loot. They never wanted to know about the fights or the mechanics or sometimes even what their job was (or was not), all they wanted was work-free loot. And sure that may be my realm and not others, but look at RDF now. People there have been in the camp of wanting to be carried and not learn the content for years now, what makes you think LFR will be any different?

I'm predicting LFR will simply be in use for those guilds who have the majority of their raid in a guild and simply need a couple of extra bodies to fill it out, and "pure" pugs will likely fall apart within the first couple of trash pulls when it becomes obvious it is simply 10 or 25 people who just want free loot and won't bother doing any actual work for it.

You realize the difficulty is going to be easier than normal raids, right? I have a feeling it won't be as bad as people think.
