Yeah, Tim Pool was talking about this. The dollar amount is absolutely absurd. The idea of even rewarding someone this kind of money for a defamation case, which, regardless of whether or not you believed what Alex jones is saying, doesn't give the government the right to fine him for saying it.
Lots of people have lots of stupid opinions and beliefs. It's not the government's place to enforce the freedom of expression. This case will ultimately backfire in the worst ways possible.
Assuming this reaches the Supreme Court, this will cement Alex Jones in legal historical precedence. Best immediate case for the family is they win the lawsuit, appeals are denied, and they get paid nothing. Because the awards are based off profits. And technically speaking you can offload profits into business expenditures and effectively cut them out. Worst case scenario this gets overturned and we're left with a Supreme Court precedence in Alex Jones V. Texas (Or whatever state he's being sued in), and it will be heralded as one of the biggest free speech victories in American history.
Honestly, the fact that this has gone to court has put far more eyeballs on the topic of discussion than anything Alex could have done alone. And while he gets some things wrong, he's actually pretty accurate about a lot of stuff.
I don't know, just waiting to see how this ****show ends.
