I have messed with high end Android phones and the quality does not compare, and the UI doesn't compare well to the Apple iOS UI.
It's serviceable, cheap, and everywhere, so there's no risk in getting an Android phone. But if you want the best phone out of the box - an iPhone can't be beat.

If blackberry doesn't release something decent this summer, I'm going to consider the iphone 5. That is if it will do exactly what my blackberry does and email works just as good.

RIM is done man, jump ship. Seriously they just can't get it right, they're not capable of competing.
Email is perfectly fine on touchscreen smartphones (iPhone, Android, Windows, etc)

The only reason people can't jump ship from BB is the physical keyboard. There isn't a single other redeeming quality about their phones, and I was a loyal user for years.
The UI is clunky and slow, the phones are poorly built, and there isn't even 1/10th of the apps/software available on them compared to iOS/Droid.

Check that whatever phone/app you will be using supports push email like BB does.

**** sakes...like the Torch. Really?? that's the latest innovation they are releasing???
I do love the physical keyboard
Like the crackbaby said, I've tried iphone(had 2 , 3gs for 3 months then gave the iphone 4 a try) ...really wasn't comparing to the BB.

Wait you had iPhones and went back to BB? How?
If its the keyboard then ditch RIM for an Android phone with physical KB.

it was so restricted...everything had to go through itunes, email didn't seem to be as fast, I'm not a fan of touchscreen typing. Don't know son, didn't seem for me.
Plus I have all my contact list in BB (I'm guessing there's a migration app or something?)

Damn bro u shoulda JB'd that **** and lived happily ever after.
But I hear you on the keyboard thing it took me a good month to get used to touchscreen. Totally worth the switch in the end, but you gotta dedicate yourself to it.

Which high end phones did you check out? As far as build quality the iphone is very nice for sure but I'd put up the Epic, Evo, or Droid X with it. Then with UI I can't quite figure out how apple as the edge. There are so many options for Droid that you can really get it how you want it. I prefer launcher pro myself.

One thing I miss from my BB was the red LED that would flash if I had a voicemail/email/reminder. Is there a way to enable notification like that on an Android?

My D1 does that.
Missed call - green flasher
Missed reply on IM - purple
Missed email - blue
Missed sms - red
Usually the app itself has the options for colors/sound in notifications.
Then there are apps to customize the led if that is what you wish.

the epic (sprint galaxy s) has a notification led. With an app you can choose red, blue, or purple and flash speed/solid depending on the notification.
