i had a buddy that taught in the city for a couple years for tfa. it was 8th or 9th grade, right when they're all newly a foot taller than the the teacher
he said the gist of it is getting through the day making sure none of them kill each other while trying to focus your attention on the two or three kids that actually want to learn and get out of this awful situation
kids that fail out of school should fail out of school. there is absolutely nothing a teacher or a school system can do for a child whose parents have given up on them. of course the kid's a victim, but you can't unrape the goat. these kids do nothing but damage to a classroom with willing students.

I would love to hear anyone willing to defend nearly a generation of liberal policy for results like these.
Can it be done?
How is it the republicans fault?

Point out the part where i'm a liberal please. Of course you can't get your head around the idea that for some people it's not a simple binary decision and that some of us are capable of independent thought on individual issues. Not pigeonholing people is hard

The solution here is to bring back Welcome Back Kotter. No one ever skipped his inner city class and he told hilarious jokes and anecdotes while getting in and out of various situations. The kids were all races and ethnicities and genders and they all had a swell time.
Plus, John Travolta wasn't a blimp yet so there's that.

I've lived in Baltimore for 10 years now. The public school system is pathetic. Despite having the third highest per pupil spending of any district in the state, the educational achievement is abysmal. My wife taught elementary for BCPS for a few years. She's an adept teacher, but had to spend the majority of her days managing behavioral issues. She frequently came home crying and was accused of racism more than once. It's very difficult for BCPS to retain teachers and administrators.

I'm from Maryland. Went to medical school and did my post-graduate training in Baltimore, which took 9 years all told. We're saving for a place out in the burbs, and will move by the end of 2022.
I enjoyed living in Baltimore quite a bit more before I had children. The crime, filth, etc. bothers me a lot more now.

living in the nice part of an otherwise ****ty city makes sense but what i'll never understand is living in california
everyone's gay, it's astronomically expensive, everywhere sucks, no one speaks english, and your government is on a collision course with the sun
there's nice scenery 8 hours from the nearest human habitation but you could live two states over and still say that

This thread proves money can't fix evolution. The IQ stats show that POC only reach high school level, if that. It leads to a cycle of not getting high paying jobs, living in the bad part of town, and the kids not doing good in school.

I've enjoyed the two trips I've taken to California: San Francisco for a conference and Tahoe with the TW nerds. I wouldn't want to live there either.
