I too just took the walk down that lane and found 4 gigs of demos the other day. Now if I could just figure out how to watch them. ;-0
You need to watch them via the game.

if they're base demos you need the old .exe which can be found...
Go to the 'demo playback notes' tab on this google sheet which gives some details which should help you. Otherwise if you have a couple of specific demos you'd like converted you can send them to me and I'll add them to my YT channel.
