AMD 1800X fuck smashing "all" the Intel 5960X records.

Bought a 7700k a few weeks ago because of the gaming aspect. My CSGO pubing doesn't benefit from multi core, it just need high ghz

Amazing cpu overall. Bad for gaming. Glad to see AMD back in the game - should be really good for the industry.

Was planning using a 1800x for my next build, but after seeing gaming benchmarks, I probably won't.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Even if it isn't "as fast as a 7700k for gaming" it is still faster than you'd need for 4k 144hz G-synch. In fact, i doubt there is any NOTICEABLE difference in gaming experience between them.

So why not just buy a 7700K and save yourself some money?

Because it is 2017 and not 2012. Why would I want another 4 core processor?

Do any of these new AMD motherboards have two or more pci3x4 M.2 slots?

I'm in the market for a new computer, but since I'm going with 1440p@60 gaming -- I don't really care so much about the cpu. But I do care about platform features, and these AMD motherboards look kinda blah.

my only real question is - where is AMD stock going from here? the overall consensus seems to be positive on it except for gaming, but lots of what i'm reading says that this model was not intended to cater to gaming / hasn't been optimized for gaming / etc. and that future models will blow everything away. thoughts?

$92 and change all time high in 2000 (inflated)
$40.54 is the recent high in Feb 06

However that isn't the whole picture.

AMD makes the CPU/GPU for Xbox, ps4, and iirc still for nintendo too. large volume low margin sure but this is a solid line of business that they didn't have before.

Competition to Intel + console line of business ... who knows $50 mid next year presuming they execute? idk.

Why not 1440p @ 144hz?

if you're not rendering videos in 3D Studio Max or working with huge images in photoshop or doing large scientific computations, you aren't going to be taking advantage of 8 cores in the 1800x chips. you are better off getting a 7700k for games. Most software today does not take advantage of multi-core/multithreading.

save the extra dosh for a better video card.

I bet a lot of games would dip below 144fps at 1440p with an avg vid card like a 1070.
