Im having the same problem with AC97 and 32-bit win7. it pulls "ac97 with VIA" from windows update and doesnt work.

I downloaded the windows 7 reltek driver for ac97 from the reltek site and that doesnt work either.

huge disappointment cause the system runs great otherwise.

Maybe look for your motherboard/chipset drivers?

It seems its a common problem, but I can't find the solution on google.

anyone

The problem I had was the intial driver would essentially hijack everything to the audio port. It would work, but it wouldn't allow you to change it to anything like another set of speakers or a headset. I found a couple of tech forums say the only real reason to fix it is to actually unplug everything that has audio/sound and then do it again. I did that and it worked fine.

oh nice, didnt realize they sold them solo

yeah i was going to suggest the usb type connector, though mine came bundled with a mic and headphones. the only problem i had was with constant movement, i ended up pulling on the cord a couple times and bending the usb portion and it broken, rendering my sound absent. that and it eats up a slot, but w/e
