Live stream of #OccupyWallSt protest in NYC

Yeah I was talking to my conservative friend the other day and he was telling me how multinational conglomerates are the best thing that has ever happened to humanity, and how the mere thought of a huge company like GE not paying taxes gave him an erection up to his ear. I gently reminded him that there are usually two sides to every story, but he said "RUSH LIMBAUGH DOESN'T THINK SO" and stormed out of the restaurant. Haha, those crazy conservatives. True story.

I'm calling bullshit. Not that the incident occurred, but that you have a friend.

Musashi should stick to talking about intellectual property issues, he is just coming of like an idiot in this thread.

not sure if what they are fighting is what i'd like to be fighting...

I fucking hate it when a politician puts into play a piece of legislation that often serves to line that same politician's pockets.

shitty example: policy maker Greedy McAsshole gives a tax break to big oil, retires from the political scene a year later and immediately takes a job working for big oil.

that shit happens all the time and it disgusts me to no end...
And these corporations also ship 100 jobs over to China and India because the owners will make an extra 500k/year.

I do not like the outsourcing nor the politician pocketing.

@Musashi: You realize that corporations are treated as a person in litigious terms, yes? You do not see anything inherently wrong with that?

"Citizens", not persons. Unlike a person, a corporation can't be sent to jail, can merge with or eliminate others of its race, and if it ever gets in trouble (e.g. debt that the government won't make go away) its constituent parts can always separate from it and form a new corporation to take its place.

It's kind of unsettling, actually, I'm picturing a corporation as some sort of creepy amoebic demon. I'm going to back away slowly now.

Wonder how they feel about all the union money in politics?
Yep, unions are just as bad if not worse, unfortunately when we allow a corporation to wield power then the individual doesn't stand a chance. Now we're all victims because our government is no longer for the individual it is for powerful groups with special interests.

I've said it before on TW, but didn't get much feedback: The elegant solution to complex problems is to simply align incentives. Right now there is no incentive to provide or listen to the small man, because all the money is consolidated. Break that up or outlaw it and we all suddenly have our own voice back.

That's cause the small man is placated by his little toys and gizmos, his big screen tv, porn, boooze, and big vehicles, fast food and warehouse bulk foods...

take those away with one good solar flare and there is going to be a lot of placating going on, or at least a lot of running around shooting things.

Or one day the small man is going to wake up and say, hey I am not paying those dudes at the top for this crap anymore, think I will go to the lake and play and watch the sunset. Then the big guys are going to be like damn, where's the cash flow, where's the big stock dividens, they there will be a lot of placating going on, or again at least a lot of running around shooting things.

But for now, it's all amuse and abuse and not much running around shooting things.

Your utopian vision is very Thoreau-esque, but unfortunately in the American consumer society it will never happen.

Hes sounds like a slave.

I am a conservative. Your friend sounds like hes been indoctrinated by media propaganda. The president of GE was just at obama's job speech sitting right next to mrs.obama.

This is what I see the current establishment formed up as.

yes, let's dig him up right away

Yes... and just sit him in a chair on a huge stage and the whole world can congregate and chant his words of wisdom...

at least it would be better than the deadheads that are in office now.
