Thanks, probably gone overboard as a bit of a rebound after lockdowns and whatnot.

It's all good healthy fun so nothing wrong with it I suppose.

Didn't have the best session yesterday, still nosediving out of control, got one really nice wave though which made up for everything.

I think I have figured out what is causing it so I'll try a slightly different tack when I go next Saturday.

Oh - here is the night session from Saturday

So much fun under the lights, really weird feeling
When you see a lifeguard in ski gear, you wonder what would happen if he actually had to go in

nice barrel and no one in it, it gets quiet at night in winter

Yes! that looks like a lot of fun!
I'm guessing it's fresh water?
I know swimming in ocean salt water is different than pool water,,,
How's the flotation? Prolly don't notice a difference on a board.

I Have been surfing my brains out for over a week now.
Today peaked at double overhead take offs.
Wish there were pics
The board works awesome; although a better choice might have been the Rusty 6'9" semi-gun. I was somewhat surprised to see Los Pinos breaking top to bottom (throwing out with some hollow) on the take offs today. Very steep... I pearled (drove nose of board into the water instead of bottom turning) a couple times. Most of the time the board just works easily under my feet. I can push round house turns on the faces really hard and haven't lost traction at all, still very loose.

Here's what I sent my friend today:
I let myself sleep in and crossed my fingers the wind would be ok. Got out around 10. My first try at a bomb I wasn't far out enough tried to pull out of my take off and ended up getting sucked over a bit and taken down pretty far. My arms have a couple bruises from hanging onto the board for too long! It didn't break yaay. After that I was a bit more careful and outside. My most memorable was a clean double overhead takeoff on a slant. Got to the bottom and slowly pulled up into a pocket that felt like it was throwing over me.. but I was looking down the line, big face in front of me and just held on for the scream.

Yeah it's fresh water so the buoyancy is lower than the ocean, that's where a lot of ppl struggle b/c they bring these tiny shortboards in (which are too small for them anyway) and then they sink even more.

On a larger board or a fish, people seem to do really well - and no sand in your pants either!

Glad to hear the new one is working for you, pls don't break it, that would be heartbreaking.

I'd imagine you can take off further out on it as the extra volume gives you easier paddling and more buoyancy (depending how many tacos you ate last week). Gotta get that angle happening, that's most of my problem at the moment. I'm very close to nailing it though.

I went down the ocean on Sunday but didn't go in, it was big out back and like a washing machine everywhere else. I would have been the only one out so I decided that discretion is the better part of valour and chickened out

surfed nearly double overhead waves today
surfed nearly 4 hours
only between 1 and 4 guys going for it
I got my share of big drops (still took out the MotE... new board and all)
Saw a guy break his board today.
Saw another guy take a well over double overhead wave
steep take off, pull up and get a quick tube and then big carves on the face
and that was on a Slater Design Omni!!! like a small board
I was hooting as he came out

I've got bruises on both upper arms from wrapping my arms around the big board and plowing through white water
kinda looks like that pic

Need to get good at pumping if u hang around Aussie chicks

I'm going to master it though, I hate seeing all these people look like idiots doing the constant speed bounce thing to try to gain speed. It almost always looks bad.

Getting one of those Smoothstar skate boards so I can practice around home. May be embarrassing if I take out my old board (from 1984 but it still works)

I have a Carver skateboard. I've never tried a Smoothstar, but I've thought about getting my hands on one. The Carver works well for surf practice. I remember to pull it out when it gets flat a for a few days.

Thanks Brasstax
I was looking for pictures on the internet of him working.
I need to spend more time scouring. I figure lots of people have old Disney Marching Band pics on the internet. The marching band broke off into little groups. My favorite that he played with were the Straw Hatter (a dixieland group)... I haven't found pics of his time yet, just modern pics.
All of those guys were exceptional musicians just looking to get off the road and have a steady gig.

I was one of the beginning characters in the 50 Happy Years parade in ~'75? Stilted Horseman dressed like a knight. I thought I'd find lots of pictures... my eyes were blinded by flashes every night from people taking pics of us... but I have yet to find a single one.
