It'd be a pretty cool MMORPG as long as they put in permanent deaths. Make a Basher class, a Gunner, a Medic, a kid (for wriggling through tight spaces), etc. Make a safe zone (like a mall or something) and the further out you go the more nasty and numerous the zombies get but the better survival gear can be located.

having fast zombies in movies/games should be a crime. If they're fast, they're not real zombies
I understand that sacrifices would have to be made for increased playablility but making fast zombies just seems so wrong

You know what we need guys?
We need a ****ing Star Trek Holodeck.
Then we can do a real life simulation of Zombies rampaging the city, and hauling up in a store with shotguns and rifles. Using chairs and golf clubs as weapons.
That would be BADASS!
AM I RITE GUYS?!111?

Be realistic, the holodeck would be used mostly for porn anyway, just like the internet.
Anyone know of any TW GTA modders? Want to get a team together.

There would be Celebrity holodeck programs that people would pirate the crap out of. The govt would try to legislate it as **** and outlaw it, but people would do it anyway.

Then, of course, the Nanosocialists would step in.

there are about a million zombie games in development right now. I'm sure if they do well, this game will come out

It looks like it was ATTEMPTED, but a poor attempt.
Look up Resident Evil Outbreak for the PS2.

This HAS to be done for the PC and made better. Resident Evil is NOT what I was going for. I am more going for Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead. Kinda like that new XBox 360 zombie game. But more expansive and ****. Not just a beat them senseless kind of game.

First person or RPG?
Either its lame locking and attempted RE2 action, or we'll have a Doom3 clone with forced RPG'ing.
Mix up something weird to explain the zombies.
Different kinds of zombies,. fast slow, pack mentallity, weapon weilders, leaders.
Lots of improvised ways to do things: you can of course just shoot a zombie...or you can drag that concrete block all the way to the roof and drop it on their heads; or light flammable things to get the job done.
Make barricades for buildings using improvised things, ramps to get across buildings. Really go Gary's mod with teh things you can do.
Fight against other survivalists and possibly govt troops told to 'clean up' the mess at all costs.
I think FPS would be perfecst. HL2 proves to us that a FPS can have excellent puzzle solving and RP'ing. A pure zombie game would be perfect for teh engine.

I think a cool way to do it would be that when the zombie survivalists die, their bodies become zombies, but they respawn as military forces OR zombies. That way you have an eventual cleansing so the game can start all over again. There should be some definite benefits to surviving a zombie plague, but I dont know what those would be.

Zombie-Strike is hella fun and free. There was also some HL1 mod for zombie MP.

Yes, you have the same mindset that I have. I mean pick up a ****ing chair and use it to smash the zombie's head in!
You should join the team that consists of Tribalbob and me.

IMo a good idea for a zombie mod would be one where a small group of players are droped in a randomly generated bulding and for 5 mins they set up defences and use tools and whatnot, then they fight the zombies in the building wile avoiding their boobie traps.
think kind of like in HL2 when you set up the turrets and such, but you can place locks on doors, box up hallways, and have alarms, and a few proxy nades.
You woudl also be able to build after the aombies come, and watch out for you teams, like you wouldnt want to lock a player in a zombie filled room, but you might have to to save the rest.

It could be set up modularly so that your group has objectives to meet. Like maybe for each group of people, a form of transportation is availible nearby, but of course various things could be wrong with the transportation that the players would then have to go collect the neccessary tools/parts to get it working. That way you have to make expeditions out of the relatively comfortable confines of your barricades.
Remember, you cant just stay put in one place forever. This is a feature in most zombie movies.

It's funny that this is brought up, because I've been thinking about this same thing.
I dont think an MMO is the best way to do it. You can't really feel as involved in an MMO as you would in a single player sandbox-style game like morrowind, or gta.
My rendition of a game like this would be a large playing area like morrowind/gta III: SA/Operation Flashpoint. You would need a few cities and some rural areas in between.
You could have a living, breathing city of NPC's that went about thier daily buisness, when the zombie outbreak begins. Some NPC's would fight or run, depending on thier "personality type". Slowly, it would spread everywhere with mindless zombies roaming around.
The game would start towards the beggining of the outbreak and the character would be tasked with survival. The character would have nothing but the clothes on his back to start with, although he could scavenge for supplies like food, water, weapons at stores or houses in the area. It's kind of hard to think of any other objectives. Maybe hold out long enough untill the military could contain and eradicate the zombie horde? Or maybe make it to an area where the military have been able to contain the spread of the infection.
You could also recruit other NPC's and construct a base of operations. With a menu driven command system, you could task certain people with base defense and others with scavenging the surrounding areas for supplies.
Raiders could also be present who prey on the weak for food and supplies. You could also include a co-op mode so that you could get a crew of freinds together and work as a tream to survive. If one of your teammates were to be infected they would be basically done for for that play session since they would lose control of the character and the AI would take over once the character makes the transition to a zombie. All in all, I think it could be a very cool game if done properly.

I think it's great that people are thinking of this, but I disagree with the idea of NPC humans. The only thing thats sets the humans apart from zombies is the ability to adapt, sure you can say that happens with AI, but it will always be predictable. This is the sort of thing that I see working out only if Players are humans and zombies are NPCs.

That could work as long as control of the character was turned over to AI when it turned into a zombie. As long as you didnt have humans controlling the zombies, it would be good.
Human controlled zombies are just too smart and have to balanced or people start *****ing. The reason zombies are a problem isnt because they are smart or as fast as humans, its because of ther sheer number of them and thier ability to convert the enemy into thier own.
