I am counting on the oblivion mod community to save F3, like they did oblivion.

The only real cliffs you need are:
1. Angry fansite mods/members spazz at Bethesda
There's no question that the franchise has been dumbed down, but that's what it takes to sell now. I remember having played Morrowind for hours, and then attempting the main quest only to find one of the central NPCs was the shop owner who caught me stealing in the very beginning of the game (he was dead). I love Oblivion, I bought it the day it came out and I still play to this day. One of the first mods I downloaded got rid of the crowns and inability to kill quest NPCs, another to get rid of the arrow, etc. Just because the game has been dumbed down, doesn't mean it's not a better game than it's predecessor.
I played one of the previous ES games, it was either Daggerfall or Arena I'm not quite sure. I was about 10 at the time and new to computer gaming, I bought the game as a birthday present for a friend (coincidently I also bought him the T2 game). My buddy never touched the game, and when I borrowed it I wasn't able to do much more than throw (literally throw my weapon, I didn't know what attacked) at the bad guys, my friend had lost the manual. Needless to say I didn't get very far. Even with this setback I really admired the game. The free roaming, the languages, the skills, it was really amazing. Judging from that game I thought the future of PC gaming would be simulated worlds comparable to real life. With all that said, I'd prefer the franchise dumbed down and successful than niche and dead *cough*tribes*cough*.
Also, I wouldn't consider myself to have played the ES series before Morrowind, and I've never liked/played the fallout games. Although they sound good in theory, I don't like the game mechanic. I can't wait for F3.

if they didn't want people to compare it to Fallout and Fallout 2, and approach it with preconceptions, maybe they shouldn't have called it Fallout 3.

Bioware games arnt even 1/10 as complex as Bethesda games. Bioware also sticks with very cheesy black and white story lines/chars.
Blizz, they dumb everything down. Seriously, what were you thinking?
Obsidian? The company famous for being fed other companies table scraps then ruining their franchizes? If you say so.
CD Project is a publisher. What you just did is like calling KitchenAid a world renowned chef.
