Vermont moves closer to universal health care ‎

So essentially everyone is forced to pay even if they have their own insurance?

That's idiotic. It's just like the failed school system where poor parents that still pay taxes can't use a voucher towards a private school tuition, thereby crushing competition. We all know how terrible public schools are, this being the main reason (besides teacher's unions, which lobby against vouchers).

Why not just force everyone to pay, but be able to use your voucher towards your own private healthcare insurance vhoice? That would ensure competition.

It would probably end up being a payroll tax that the employer splits with you. Your current insurance would go bye bye and you would have the option of picking up a secondary/supplemental private policy to cover whatever isn't by the state. So basically everyone who is employed pays and all businesses that employ people in the state pay (assuming they go the payroll route and not just increase taxes).

I think it's a good idea for two reasons..

#1. I don't live in Vermont.
#2. If it fails it doesn't affect me.

Yes, clearly attempting to emulate the healthcare system model used in countries that spend less than half of what we do and get better results for it is an idiotic thing to do. It's amazing how stupid some people are, wanting to stop paying more to get less. What are they thinking?!?

apparently a lot of 'libertarians' and 'conservatives' don't like America and don't believe in our ability to do things efficiently. makes me cry knowing people in this country hate america :flag:

Health care works best as a free market system. Insurance was only supposed to be there for catastrophes, like car insurance. The problem happened when just seeing a doctor requires insurance. If health care went back to a free market, prices would come down.

The only good news about this, is Vermont is a mostly white state. So the number of free loaders they support would be low. But we've already seen what happens in New Orleans when government is the main support, it fails (Katrina).

Specifically they hired the guy who helped put together the system in Taiwan to put together a couple of plans. In so far as saving money goes, this might save "some" but even with a national system, we will still pay an excessive amount for healthcare in this country. It's called economics and even socialism isn't immune to it's effects.
 
Doesnt stuff like this concern people? How is this going to be funded? The whole delayed concept of paying expenses reminds one of California.

The bill sets up a five-member state board to design a benefit package to be called Green Mountain Care, but doesn't require the governor to propose a way to pay for it until 2013.

Vermont is small and white. I think that makes them a great testing grounds for this in the US. Universal healthcare is coming here whether you want it to or not. The question is this. Are you going to be constructive and help improve the systems that will inevitably be put in place or do your best as a good little conservative and try to tear it down thus hurting our country in the process. So resistant to change some are.

New ideas bad! Keep things the same good!

Now having sad that here is what I have come to learn. The left being known as liberals are apt to experiment and push the boundaries of governance. Being liberal with something by definition makes it pretty obvious. Conservatives do their thing and try to keep it the same or in the cases of failed legislation try to revert back to how it used to be. If they do come up with something new by definition it is usually conservative in the changes it makes. Either parties views can be advantageous in some respects and not in others.

Want to know the the difference between a good liberal or a good conservative and a bad one? It is when something is going to happen and they cannot stop it so they drop the partisan bullshit and become constructive. They drop the petty name calling and bullshit politics and actually attempt to put their spin/flavor on the new legislation in an attempt to improve things instead of trying to destroy what is being done thus hurting the very people they supposedly work for. When that happens you put the party ahead of US citizens. Increased political power at what costs? Take a look at the state of this country lately and you will have your answers.

Whether either side of the isle wants to admit it or not you assholes need each other. If one party was killed and left the other one solely in charge they would drive this country into the ground. Left or right it does not matter. What matters is you are both here to counter one another keeping us on a relatively steady path down the fucking middle. Yin Yang.
