-Random Civ, unless both players agree to picking civs.
-Normal Speed, (fast if both agree), map unexplored, population=200 or 300. Could be more i suppose as long as both players agree if not then the standard settings will be used.
-Initially Players with most wins gets ranked highest.
-If you want to challenge someone higher ranked than you then you must complete the best of 5.
-When you defeat someone higher ranked then you in a best of 5 series you automatically earn their rank regardless of record.

rules seem fairly reasonable. however, I would like to suggest a small change regarding map choice & civ choice:
- For game #1, follow the guidelines you set out.
- Afterwards, the loser of each game of the best of 5 should be allowed to choose the map, and choose a civ which the other player must mirror. (civ choice can be the option "random")
Additionally, each player should be allowed one restart (must be used in the first 2 minutes of the game), which he may use at his discretion for reasons like bugged maps (boars/sheep within forests) or for bad maps (terrible resource locations), etc.
about the ranking though...
lets say there's players A, B, C, and D, ranked 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively.
1. is player D allowed to challenge player A?
2. if yes to question 1, when player D beats player A, he becomes rank 1 according to your rules. What happens to player A? Is he now rank 4, or is player C rank 4 & player A is rank 2?
