It's become a pretty big deal and a lot of fun for us on the Bria server, every Tuesday and Sunday night starting at 9pm Central, the Deep Space zone fills up with Imperials and Rebels duking it out for control of "the nulls", otherwise known as the 0,0,0 coordinates in the zone.
Also, the rebell "Freedom Station" is destroyable by the Imps, and the Imperial Star Destroyer on the other side of the zone can be dismantled piece by piece by Rebel fighters. The zone is mostly empty of NPCs however there are patrolls of Tier 5 Imps and Rebs, including gunboats and rebel corvettes.
Even if you aren't a pilot, or if you don't feel like you have a PvP ready ship, send me a tell and I'll get you in touch with a gunboat captain, they're always looking for more gunners.
As long as you're factioned on the ground, you will get GCW points for killing opposing faction players in space PvP.
