I was just thinking of my SWG days (I'm probably going to cave into the nostalgia and reactivate this ****) and I have to say, the bugs and weird mechanics of SWG made for a lot of really hilarious incidents.

So you SWG vets, what have you done in this game that was funny or just totally badass.

Mine is a bit of both.

I was a rebel MBH / Master Pistoleer at the time of this, and this was the day of the patch that introduced the DE-10 schematic. It wasn't long until I had an uber krayt DE-10 and I even got a lucky 20% damage slice on it. This weapon looks like a ****ing Colt magnum so I look like a total badass with it.

So I decided to go **** around with my new toy, and I flew to a player city on Tatooine, overt. When I land, there happens to be an imperial standing right at the shuttle port, overt as well. So naturally I killed him instantly and started looking around the city. About 10 meters to my right, there was a group of 3-4 crafters chatting it up, they were covert obviously.

These crafters happen to be in the same guild as the guy I just owned, in fact, the guild is a guild of almost all crafters called ACME. The guy I killed comes back to us after cloning, and starts giving me ****...he basically tells me this is a peaceful guild and that I can't use weapons in his town or I'll be banned. Now, I love ****ing with roleplayers, but I agree to his terms and continue to hang out and give the crafters ****.

After a few minutes, the original guy I killed comes over to me and lets me know he has a friend coming into town to trade something to, and that his friend is overt, and that since when you trade with someone overt, it flags you as well, he told me not to do anything to him or his buddy.

So I agree to this, and soon enough the guy lands. They do their exchange and thanked me for not interfering. Now, something happened that this guy probably didn't consider when he did this.

As anyone who played pre cu SWG knows, when you trade with someone overt, it flags not just you, but everyone you may be grouped with. I suddenly came to the realization that this guy who was trading with the overt was grouped with the small group of crafters sitting in a circle chatting; every single one of them was flagged.

So I proceeded to 1 shot every crafter and then the original guy I killed and finally his friend...it was hilarious because they all started yelling STOP STOP STOP as I mercilessly slaughtered them all.

I reactivated my account just a few months ago, and to this day I am banned from that town...it's been at least 2-3 years.

Cliffs:
I killed some crafters in SWG because of Gtef
Post funny SWG stories, I miss this game.

cross server holocron trading (i seriously stocked up on like 20 of them)

xp grinding off missions in dantooine

leveling pikeman - was fun as **** just going into mission/mob spawn point and just AoE spamming the **** out of it as it destroyed the spawn point and any mobs that came out

being an image designer (lol)

being a buff-bot doctor in the corellia spaceport - i had the longest lines

**** i miss pre NGE SWG. I wish ******s didn't ***** about the first CU so much (i could have gotten used to that), instead their *****ing brought us the NGE. The first year or so after SWG was released are seriously my best memories of gaming.

I agree, CU was fine...NGE is what really ****ed the game up.

checking my station account info i saw that my SWG account said "pending" - downloaded and installed and turns out it's got playtime must be one of those "come back and try swg" trials that was just waiting for me to log on to start the trial

Just logging into some random spot on Dantooine gave me nostalgia goodness - but i doubt i'll be able to get into it

man I know what you mean, just logging back into the game makes me feel sad...I tried it again a few months back and I was able to get a few levels but just wasn't the same game anymore.

I logged on in the friends house, the guy I gave all my credits and armor and everything to when I quit, all of the stuff was just sitting around, every gun and every piece of armor brought back memories of BHing.

I agree wholeheartedly, the year or 2 after SWG was released was probably the most fun I've ever had gaming, right up there with Tribes, lot of cool people I miss.

Also, grinding on missions in dantooine is definitely something I remember well...****ing quenker missions and an aoe macro day after day when changing templates :P

I had a buddy who was grinding out a template back in the day, and if he ever ended up grouping with a jedi stupid enough to do group missions on dant, he'd tell me his name and I'd come **** him up to give my buddy some entertainment :P

Game really had a level of interaction and involvement with other players in PvP that still hasn't been matched by an MMO.

Also something that I miss is the custom bounty missions for my guild. We were an all BH guild and easily the most feared tag for any Jedi We had a service that a person could put a custom mission on a jedi for x credits, and they could request that we give them a message before or after killing them...just the thrill of hunting these guys and killing them is something that no game has come close to replicating...Bounty hunting in pre NGE SWG is to me still the greatest pvp in any MMO, ever.

honestly me and a friend reminisce on vent all the time about this game, was truly an amazing thing to play.

hell yes, QUENKER missions - i took one today just for nostalgia purposes

WHY IS DANTOOINE EMPTY now. wtf

yeah i had some great BH / jedi pvp memories

I was trying to master BH for the holocron grind, and i ended up finding some Jedi who would let me essentially "level up" / PL on him. Was a a great night.

Thankfully no one reads this SWG sub-forum or we'd have the peanut gallery ****ting all over this thread for us loving on SWG so much, but i'm glad to see there are others out there who were attached to the oldschool SWG experience as i was. I'm still waiting for another MMORPG that has the "profession" / tiered template system that SWG had for it's professions. It was genius. You could mix and match and swith whenever you wanted. Mmmmm.

This makes me think of movies. Some movies hold their quality through the years (Rocky), while other movies just look stupid in retrospect (Commando)!

The same is true for video games. Some of even the oldest are still fun and some just make me cringe. My top three games that have held up over time are: Tecmo Super Bowl, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and Ring King babay!!! lol

**** I have a few fond memories as well..

Back when you could get AT-ST's when they were super uber and no one knew how to take them out.. we had 3 of us as overt imperials in corellia start port with our AT-ST's out right where the shuttle landed.. we were all snipers (or whatver the class was called) and would almost one shot every one and our AT-ST's would finish them off..

Doing City raids with 20 people and fighting against 20 people .. being a Combat Medic and tossing Area Mind Disease and the other one that would essentialy render EVERYONE useless..

Hitting up the Tuscan fort when the game first came out and getting owned so hard...

I tried getting back into this game oh probably a year ago when they switched over to the new professions.. I tried going as a Jedi and the first mission I went to half the mobs where stuck in Tents/Mounds and you couldn't kill them .. the exact same bug that had been in the game (eg - tuscan fort) since the ****ign beginning .. I haven't played since...

*edit* Thought of another one .. back when I was on Dantooine and there was the quest bug that would let you finish the mission and get the reward without doing anything .. I amassed a few million doing that.. Basically because houses/structures where so close surrounding Dantooine's main star port.. you would pick the quests that were under 1000m away and as soon as you would run to them they would complete and you'd get credit for them .. easy $$

Rifleman was the profession

And hell yeah, the Tusken fort was the place to be. I remember grouping and leveling up Creature Handler there. Also speaking of Tatooine - i remember doing the Jabba The Hutt questline just so i could get into Jabba's main room and see Bobba Fett standing there and Jabba and so on, just for the 'this is bad ass' moment.

Anyone remember farming the Force caves in NW part of Dantooine for force crystals and holocrons? Ah, good times.

My current character was master marksman/rifleman/squad leader. It owned in big group PvP battles. The new "Officer" class is similar and has some devastating AOE attacks, but I still miss my rifle specials.
