Portland, Ore. — FM News 101 learned late Wednesday night that in response to the criminal indictment of Officer Corey Budworth, the bureaus entire Rapid Response Team resigned. Sources with the Police Bureau say the team voted unanimously to disband.

The Rapid Response Team is a group of volunteer officers who respond to civil disobedience, demonstrations, and riots.

Tuesday, a member of the team was charged with assault for actions during an August 18, 2020 riot in Southeast Portland.

Wednesday, Portland Police Association Executive Director, Daryl Turner told the Lars Larson Show that he feared officers would quit in response to what he called a “Witch Hunt” of a prosecution. In its own investigation the Portland Police Bureau determined no wrongdoing by the officer. He did not violate training or department rules. He did his job within the scope of the law.

Here is a conversation I just had with a Portlander. It started with me commenting on how crazy people are with driving in Portland. I said it's as if they are coming out of COVID with a bad attitude.

Them:
Do you think we are coming out of it? I hate these ****ing masks. Did you know we are only 70,000 people away from being able to take these stupid masks off? 70,000 idiots away. Then, this could all be over with.

Me:
Well, that's Kate making that call. Texas has had the masks off everywhere for about 3 and a half months now. No restrictions.

Them< Pause>
Yeah, but in Texas they don't restrict anything. You can walk around with a gun in the open and shoot whoever you want.

Me:
Well, that's not true. There are some places that allow open carry just like Oregon. But, they can't just shoot whoever they feel like shooting. That would be insane.

Them:
They also have the death penalty. <pause - then as if they were having a profound thought> Maybe they should have a CCW permit for people with COVID? You know, if you have COVID you have to register it as a weapon?

Me:
Hmmm....

Ahhhh Portland.

I am sure the person was one little mind leap away from thinking that what the world really needs is making those without a vaccine wear a large red letter U visible to all so that they could be easily identified and dealt with.

WEST LINN, Ore. — The Cambia Portland Classic will celebrate 50 years this year, but the tournament won't be held in Portland. It's moving to West Linn.

The tournament, which is the longest running non-major competition on the LPGA tour, is traditionally held at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club. In a letter to members, the country club board president said the move is because of safety concerns.

"Their reason for departure center around the City of Portland’s response to safety and security around the city. With LPGA players, Media, Sponsors, and thousands of spectators coming into town this fall, the tournament organizers had concerns about the safety of the city and opted to find a venue out of the city limits," Ken Smith said in the letter. "At this point, we are unsure about future years of the tournament and where it will be conducted. But we will keep you informed of any updates as we learn more in the coming months."

The tournament is now scheduled to be at the Oregon Golf Club Sept. 16 through Sept. 19.

“We’re pleased that the decision was made to keep the tournament in the greater Portland metropolitan area and look forward to its continuation in September 2021," Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler's office said in a statement. "We understand the tournament organizer’s concerns and we’re working to address those.”

The news of the relocation hit the same weekend Travel Portland started a national advertisement campaign to encourage people to come to Portland. Travel Portland put a full-page ad in the Sunday New York Times telling people, "You've heard a lot about us lately. It's been a while since you've heard from us."
Meanwhile, Portland is taking out full page ads in NY papers....

And this cutsey video begging and telling lies....

You ****ed it Ted. You ****ed it good.

Members of a specialized Portland, Oregon, police unit that deals with crowd control have resigned from the assignment en masse a day after a fellow officer was indicted on an assault charge stemming from alleged illegal use of force during a protest last year.

The Portland Police Bureau's Rapid Response Team, which is primarily responsible for providing public safety at crowd events, consisted of approximately 50 officers, all of whom resigned Wednesday, the bureau announced. The assignment is voluntary and the officers will remain on the force and continue their regular assignments, the bureau said.

The mass resignation comes a day after a grand jury indicted Portland Police Bureau Officer Corey Budworth on one count of fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor, for what prosecutors allege was an "excessive and unlawful use of force" during a protest in August 2020.

Budworth, who at the time was on the bureau's Rapid Response Team, is accused of striking a woman in the head with a baton during an Aug. 18, 2020, demonstration outside the Multnomah Building. The indictment marks the first time a Portland police officer has faced prosecution for striking or firing at someone during a protest, according to the Oregonian.

The Portland Police Bureau placed Budworth on administrative leave Tuesday, officials said.

The officers, detectives and sergeants on the Rapid Response Team voted to offer their resignation from the assignment at a meeting Wednesday night, Acting Chief Chris Davis said during a press briefing.

Two law enforcement sources close to the team told ABC News the officers decided the assault charge reflected too much hostility towards their police work, and they did not see a way forward in being members of the team facing sometimes violent protests in downtown Portland.

Davis said the bureau, including the members of the Rapid Response Team, has been under a "tremendous amount of stress" due to the coronavirus pandemic and in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, during which he said Portland saw over 150 nights of "sustained civil unrest."

"All that being said, as your police bureau, we are committed to providing the community the best service that we can," Davis said. "This does not mean there will be no response in public order situations. We'll use the resources that we have."

In October, Daryl Turner, then-president of the Portland Police Association, the union representing officers, called on the city's mayor and police chief to "stand up and publicly support Police Bureau members who voluntarily serve on the Rapid Response Team," saying the officers were "exhausted and injured" due to the protests.

"The only glue holding their team together is their integrity and commitment to serve their city," Turner wrote in an open letter. "They deserve better."

Following the indictment, the Portland Police Association said in a statement that Budworth was "caught in the crossfire of agenda-driven city leaders and a politicized criminal justice system."

The union said Budworth accidentally struck the woman, Teri Jacobs, in the head with his baton while trying to break up a riot, and alleged Jacobs was interfering with an arrest.

Jacobs filed a civil lawsuit against the city over her alleged physical and emotional injuries from the incident, which was settled earlier this year for $50,000, according to ABC Portland affiliate KATU.

In announcing the indictment over the incident this week, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt alleged that "no legal justification existed for Officer Budworth's deployment of force."

"When that line is crossed, and a police officer's use of force is excessive and lacks a justification under the law, the integrity of our criminal justice system requires that we as prosecutors act as a mechanism for accountability," Schmidt said.

Schmidt released a statement in response to the mass resignation of the Rapid Response Team, saying, "I have confidence that the Bureau will continue their mission to maintain public safety. In the meantime, my office will continue to focus on the fair and just prosecution of criminal matters. We cannot expect the community to trust law enforcement if we hold ourselves to a lower standard.”

During near-nightly social justice protests in Portland last year sparked by the police killing of Floyd in Minneapolis, Portland police used force more than 6,000 times between May 29 and Nov. 15, according to a Department of Justice report.

This week, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office also confirmed it has referred an investigation of a Portland Police Bureau detective's alleged use of force during protests for potential criminal prosecution to the Oregon Department of Justice.

Just heard this call on the Portland Police scanner:

"There is a man trying to break into the church. He is on the south side and is using a metal bar of some kind. As a reminder this is a non-chargeable offense. The owner would just like us to tell the person to come back tomorrow when the church is officially open"

Also, it is spooky how few calls there are on the scanner these days in light of how the crime rate is up around 800 percent. There are just not that many police out there in PDX at the moment. Now, the Sheriff's office is a different story but they do not usually get involved.

I am almost ready to get out of here. It has been lucrative and remains so. However, the city as a fun place to live has been destroyed. For a long time, there was a solid centrist population. Mostly good people. All of those people have fled the city for other areas. Now, Portland is just full of tards. Mostly angry tards.

You can see it sputtering. Trying to regain what was going on before. But, with each step that the DA/city has taken to remove power from the police - crime, and vandalism has notched up. Portland had a high crime in the 90s. What changed it? Breaking up the gang filled neighborhoods by gentrification, adding a specialized gang unit, adding SWAT, bringing in good cops. That lowered it. All that has been rolled back. Now you have gang bangers rolling around armed in Escalades again. Hos, pimps, illegal gambling clubs, drugs. All of that is out of control again. It takes awhile to rebuild after that. If it can even be done.

if they were good people, they would have defended their city instead of fleeing with their tails between their legs only to foist the same failed feckless philosophies of governance upon the communities they've invaded

Well, one thing that hasn't changed in PDX is that the right choice of T-Shirt can open the door to women's hearts. People say it's hard to meet chicks in PDX.

Try this one.

Of course, a Microsoft duo is killer as well. All the apple chicks love it. It represents evil to them. They want it so badly. Only a very bad boy would carry such a thing. They are just dying for you to convince them to change. But don't. That's the trick. Tell them they are better off with their little Apple life. That only a special type of person would carry something as "lame" as a MS surface duo. Meanwhile flip the screen and show them how Kindle works across two independent pages. They practically squirt.
