Turns out he was being hyperbolic, and everyone was surprised.
Yea I don't buy that at all. I think "raid" is a word in common usage for when authorities enter your home to search it for illegal items, and it has been for a long time. If I asked you to name a word to use in its stead, likely the only word you'd come up with is "search", but they'd be interchangeable. It also requires you to believe that after 6 years people can be caught off guard by Trump hyperbole, that journalists would uncritically repeat his words, or that they'd not immediately start with mockery of his words, i.e. "Trump declares raid, here's why it wasn't".

This comes across as a "Trump said it, so I need it to not be true."

which i guess is no more of a plan than to have another show trial for innocent people only to create a riot rampage and destroy more peoples lives

It wasn't the same cops, well one might've been. It was now the cops who got the warrant, not the ones who entered the home. Pound of flesh needed.

I keep hearing about how looters and rioters from the 2020 summer protests all got a free pass and didn't face any legal problems, yet the patriots on Jan 6 are facing unprecedented legal challenges.

Well i personally have a friend that owns a high end Wine/Liquor store in downtown Chicago. He had a group rip through his security gate and completely trash his place. He was also attacked and hit in the head with multiple bottles while trying to get people to leave. The entire attack was caught on camera. Those responsible for initial tearing through the gate and those that physically attacked him were all charged and convicted, plus a number of lesser charges for those shown stealing ****.

I know this goes against the narrative, but there were convictions and accountability for some of the dumb ****s from the 2020 riots.

And your point?

celebs and politicians virtue signaling by donating to these funds to show how woke they are. No surprise there.

The opportunists that used the protests to riot and loot **** probably aren't going to be above taking advantage of these funds to bail their own asses out of jail.

In the end, if they did illegal ****, a lot of them still got charged.

City Attorney: charges brought in 8 out of 261 protest related arrests in Seattle
According to the City Attorney, 261 arrests for protest related misdemeanor offenses were referred to their office. Charges were never brought in 143 of the cases.

Charges were brought in 8 cases, of which 6 where eventually dismissed. That left 2 cases where a protester received punishment. One person accepted a plea bargain, the other agree to a diversion program.

From the same article you are citing...
Quote:
But some prosecutors and law enforcement observers charge that departments carried out mass arrests as a crowd control tactic, as a means to silence peaceful protesters, and as a public relations strategy designed to turn the public against demonstrators by making them appear more violent than they were. And what’s more – some of the citing officers never witnessed the protests in the first place.

Quote:
An Associated Press review of court documents in more than 300 federal cases stemming from the protests sparked by George Floyd’s death last year shows that dozens of people charged have been convicted of serious crimes and sent to prison.

The AP found that more than 120 defendants across the United States have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial of federal crimes including rioting, arson and conspiracy. More than 70 defendants who’ve been sentenced so far have gotten an average of about 27 months behind bars. At least 10 received prison terms of five years or more.
