I'm sure those Sedin contracts would be front-loaded and have the last few years at a million or two to spread out the cap hit. They'll be off the books when the retire.

Likewise with the Rangers but that's a pipe-dream.

If I was Glen Sather this is what I would do.
A)Send Redden and Voros to Hartford, let the league know they can have him for straight garbage.
B)Resign the following players as long as we can agree on a good price. Make it top-heavy if need be. Cap hit needs to be low. Otherwise you are gone. Rangers can't afford over-priced players.
-Dubinsky (Anything above 2.5m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
-Callihan (Anything above 2m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
-Korpedo (Anything above 1.25m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
-Zherdev (Anything above 3.75m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
-Antropov (Anything above 3.75m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
-Betts (Anything above 1.5m, i wouldn't go threw with it) (He's probably gone)
-Moris (Anything above 3.5m, i wouldn't go threw with it)
C)Say Goodbye to Mara and Orr

Our Defensive Corp is as follows
Staal-Girardi
Morris-Rosival
Rookie-Rookie -> (Gilroy, Sanguetti, Potter, Del Zotto or (Free Agent?)

Scary 3rd D-line, hopefully they step it up big

Offense
Zherdev-Gomez-Avery
Dubinsky-Drury-Cally
Korpedo-Amsinov-Sjo
Call up-Betts-Free Agent

We have about 3m in free space assuming 4th line free agent costs up ~650k.

I like that line-up. Not exactly a Stanley cup team but we can make a splash at the trade deadline with the excess cap-hit space we have.

Why? Redden gets off the books and doesn't count against the cap. The Rangers aren't a broke piece of **** organization. They can afford to bite the bullet.

Perhaps they are going to sign the cricket as a free agent. A new approach for next season.

The back-end of the outdoor doubleheader would be hosted by the Flames in Calgary's McMahon Stadium, the site of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1988 Winter Olympics.

They better make it Edmonton and Calgary. What a great rivalry (although I'm sure much of the casual US fan has no clue where either of these places even are)

I ithink Redden has a NMC so he can't be sent down.

I would LOVE for it to be Edmonton and Calgary. Especially with the way the teams keep things physical even though the rivalry has died down since the mind 90s.

Staal would make more sense than Fleury. Finding a 3rd line center is a lot easier than finding a #1 goaltender. Staal is a player I wouldn't mind seeing in Anaheim. We could use a 2nd line center, and while he might not have the greatest chemistry with Selanne, I'd rather a center we could use moving ahead when Selanne isn't on the team.

dealing fleury would be retarded... you have a young, athletic goalie that can win in the playoffs... a ring, and the hit is $5M?

sign me up.

when i think about teams hiring mike keenan, i can't help but think of this arrested development quote.

Tobias: You know, Lindsay, as a therapist, I have advised a number of couples to explore an open relationship where the couple remains emotionally committed, but free to explore extra-marital encounters.

Lindsay: Well, did it work for those people?

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.
