Portland Considers ***8220;Mandatory Rest Spaces***8221; For The Homeless On Private Property
Quote:
Portland, Oregon, like many cities on the left coast, is struggling with a growing homelessness crisis. But what can they do about it? One idea that***8217;s now being floated is to change the building codes so that all new structures (including private property, not just government buildings) include spaces for people to ***8220;rest***8221; and ***8220;feel welcome and safe.***8221; This understandably has prospective property owners concerned, since the wording is all quite vague and suggests that they will be forced to allow the homeless to camp in and around their buildings. (KATU News)

Oh me oh my
further adding to this idea that they are trying to ruin the city for future planned community development like you already demonstrated inside this thread Brass.
I mean how can you force private property to make space for them? And not have them also be legally liable for their safety and well being?
aka on the hook for their drug abuse and overdosing? anything that happens to them on your property?
this was the entire lesson learned from Oaklands ghost ship fire I thought
Ghost Ship warehouse fire - Wikipedia
the answer is that you can't distinguish between the two things
they have to know this and are doing this to run everyone else out
lower the property values more and run more competition out of the city
so they can buy it up for pennies on the dollar
anything else is just them being utterly insane imo

PDX city council is absolutely bonkers. "rest areas". That's a good one.
Seriously, it feels like PDX is within about 2 years of hooking all the large buildings together with exclusive access walkways that have exclusive elevators to exclusive car parks and then just leave the streets to rot while the elite rule from above in their little crystal boxes.

Will coronavirus force Portland men to finally shave off their hipster beards?

An old infographic from the Centers for Disease Control started making the rounds Wednesday, detailing facial hair that works with respiratory masks. Sorry big boys of Portland -- bushy beards are out.
No more ***8220;Duck Tail.***8221; Say goodbye to the ***8220;Garibaldi.***8221; Bid adieu to the ***8220;French Fork.***8221;
So far, there aren***8217;t any cases of the novel coronavirus in Oregon. Also zero? The number of face masks available for purchase after the CDC announced Tuesday that Americans should get ready for the virus to spread in this country.
Also, masks aren***8217;t likely to help you not get the virus. And this graphic is from 2017.
CDC facial hair graphic
But that doesn***8217;t mean that Portland men with beards they haven***8217;t shaved since President Obama***8217;s first term shouldn***8217;t take immediate action.
Instead of hand sanitizer, it***8217;s time to start stocking up on razor blades and gauze. Because it***8217;s going to be a big, bloody mess when these hipsters reveal their faces to the world again.
Here***8217;s the thing: You aren***8217;t likely to get the virus at this point, much less die from it. But things can move quickly during a global pandemic, so why not just shave now?
On the plus side, the CDC***8217;s helpful guide has plenty of other facial hair options you can try out on your terrified and confused family, the younger members of which have never even seen your chin.
Have you ever tried the ***8220;Lampshade***8221; or the ***8220;Zorro***8221;? Make lemonade out of the lemons that are a global pandemic and go for something wild!

Just make sure you don***8217;t pick a new style that***8217;s very, very wrong. For example, the ***8220;Walrus***8221; is great, but the ***8220;Toothbrush?***8221; Where have we seen that before? Then there***8217;s the ***8220;Soul Patch,***8221; which is nearly worse for your community than becoming a vector of disease and going house to house coughing on everybody.
If it feels sad or scary to show your face to the world again, remember you will just be covering it up with a respirator! And the best part? Once panic subsides and life returns to normal, it won***8217;t take you long to regrown your glorious ***8220;Chin Curtain***8221; again. But this time, maybe trim it every once in a while?
Also, and I mean this sincerely, wash your dang hands!

Oregon Grocers and Manufacturers Go to Court to Fight Tax for Homeless - Willamette Week
Quote:
Oregon Grocers and Manufacturers Go to Court to Fight Tax for Homeless
The challenge is unexpected in part because the advocates for homeless services worked closely with business groups.
|
Funny. So, the city wants to tax grocers and downtown businesses to help with the "fight against homelessness". City is surprised. WTH? They worked with these businesses to formulate a plan and now - they don't want to pay? The audacity!
In a nutshell, Portland mayor Kate Brown has refused to do anything about enforcing the law. Portland lets criminals and addicts run the downtown. Everyone is leaving Portland. Businesses are tired of people ****ting on their doorstep. Employees fear for their lives. So Portland decides to stick it to them. Basically saying "Yeah - we haven't helped at all. Now we want you to give us more money to continue not to help at all"
What a surprise, right? Downtown Portland is heating up to be a complete wasteland devoid of people. No more cool downtown stuff. Small businesses evaporated. Good job Kate.
I am glad to see folks in Portland startinng to say "enough is enough" in their own quaint little liberal way.
I mean, saying no to taxes is basically saying no to socialism. I hope they stop to think as they drive around in their Bernie stickered cars how awesome it is to have the freedom to object.
Whatever - they have no clue.
Carry on, Portland.

Who hasn't seen the mugshots of the rioters and wondered "Why do they look like that?"
There is something eerily familiar with the way they look.
I have a theory. I think many of these people come out of the nursing and vet tech ranks.
They look like nurse practitioners and vet techs.
I believe the licensing boards for nursing have turned into a refuge for people getting out of prison or who have gone to school for arts and sciences and found that they have no value in the workplace.
I have a theory about America. If you find one of something, there are likely to be many more of that thing.
The thing I found was this:

PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County Deputies and Portland Police said protesters broke windows, threw projectiles, and went through the fence at the Justice Center overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
Groups have been rallying against racial injustice and police brutality around the Portland-metro area after the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died while officers in Minnesota were taking him into custody.
According to Portland Police, one group of several hundred demonstrators assembled at Revolution Hall. The group rallied for several hours and later dispersed

A second group gathered on the west side of the Justice Center, blocking traffic on SW 3rd Avenue for several hours, according to Portland Police.
Portland Police said a man carrying a rifle was spotted in the crowd.
Around 9:45 p.m., the group that had gathered outside the Justice Center began marching towards the Morrison Bridge.
Once mid-span on the Morrison Bridge, most of the demonstrators continued eastbound towards Revolution Hall, the rest of the group marched back to the Justice Center according to Portland Police.
Multnomah County Deputies said at around 10 p.m., protesters began throwing projectiles at the building. They said they used a slingshot to launch metal ball bearings in the direction of law enforcement personnel standing behind windows. The bearings shattered multiple windows.
According to deputies, one person went through the fence surrounding the Justice Center.
As deputies walked out of the Justice Center to talk to the person, they were hit by a “barrage of projectiles,” according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
At 11:14 p.m., Portland Police declared the demonstration an unlawful assembly and ordered protesters to leave.
The group eventually left and briefly marched around Downtown Portland before returning to the Justice Center. The group dispersed in small groups, and most left by 3 a.m.
Multnomah County deputies and Portland Police made several arrests, including two individuals responsible for shattering windows at the Justice Center.
They have been identified as Jessica Janae Wieandt, 28, and Ariston Ronald Vallejos, 31. Each were charged with criminal mischief in the first degree and reckless endangering.
Officers took metal bearings, a long-range slingshot, slingshot bands and a pick hammer from their possession.

They have that look.
Anyway, turns out she is an active RN.
I decided to take a peek at their background check policy.
How Criminal History Affects Your Application
Oregon State Board of Nursing : How Criminal History Affects Your Application : State of Oregon
Let's just say it's all neatly wrapped up in a "we review each case individually" text. Like this - related to people with ABUSE hits...
Quote:
***8203;As stated previously, each application is reviewed on an individual basis. If you have been investigated for allegations of abuse or neglect, a closure letter from the law enforcement or social service agency that conducted the investigation will expedite the review of your application. You should also submit a detailed letter explaining, by your own account, the circumstances surrounding the event(s).
|
I don't see anything about reviewing criminal history once you are registered. It does not appear that the renewal process requires a new background check.
So, an easy on-ramp - even for those with a criminal history that might even include abuse, no follow-up checks. Interesting!
I can only imagine what kind of issues are lurking here.
As far as vet techs go - we all know about them
