I rather enjoyed the Arrowverse Supergirl on the CW TV show "Supergirl" who was played by whiter than white Melissa Benoist who was hot and did a hell of a fine job with the role.

If a character's ethnicity has already been established, then don't change it.

Don't make Jimmy Olsen a ****** when he's already been established as a ginger. Keep Mehcad Brooks though. Just cast him instead as Ron Troupe; and, then just let him do the same stuff in the TV show... as Ron Troupe.

I think the comic book realm dabbles in multiverse **** enough to survive a latina Supergirl. But if you're going to change **** with the understanding that it's not "canon" then you need to be up-front and honest with the fans that you're doing some multiverse **** with the character. This is not your "original" hero.

And then some nerd will still have a problem with it somewhere, but most people will just go back to not giving a ****.

And then nobody will watch your show.

Why do progressives complain at length that the movie Dunkirk is too white or a Medieval European RPG doesn't have any black people represented... I mean, if it doesn't matter why do they care so much?

You have to be pretty naive to think that ethnicity isn't a driving factor behind these progressive casting choices... it's not just chance that the actor/actress we choose to hire conveniently checks numerous intersectional tick boxes on the woke spectrum.
