How does the job and cost of living situation work in Canada? I know what textbook socialism is, but I'm curious how it plays out in reality. If one is a fast food clerk and cannot afford the basic necessities of life (housing, food, clothes, electricity, etc), how do they go on living? What about wage discrepancy?
We have welfare here and I would consider it socialist, so I'm honestly just curious.

Number of ways - if you simply don't make enough to survive I'm pretty sure you don't get an extra paycheck or anything like that from the gov(though ive never had to deal with that). There's ei(employment insurance) that everyone pays into which is basically welfare if you get laid off until you can find a new job(I think you can collect ei for a year, not too sure. My dad worked in the oil patch so he was on ei quite often between jobs and such)
There's basically section 8 type of low income housing if you make below a certain $$ a year( we were looking for places to live many years ago and got denied because we made too much - I didn't know that this even existed)
We also have uhc, so healthcare costs are pretty much nothing
Theres no food stamp type of service(oddly enough, TIL)
Off the top of my head I can't really think of anything else - do you have anything specific you're wondering about? I'll go look at a paystub and let you know what I pay for each tax thing

ok so
using %s
my company takes 8% for stuff like dental/medical benefits like massages and **** and what is the american equivalent of 401k contributions
gov takes 27%, which breaks down into:
income tax - 18%
cpp(canada pension plan, aka social security? i guess) - 4%
ei - 4%
long term disability - 1%

you know that is the truth, right? I mean, comparing it to the entire world, US in the leader in that ...
I believe Sanders would be the best Obama's successor. At least the basic ideas are the same. Bring a republican now and ya'll amuricans will suffer with all the setbacks of the socialist reforms that Obama administration managed to implement with triumph and success. And not only economically speaking... Social too. It will be impossible for any other president to match with what Obama brought to the World. So yeah.. perhaps Sanders could do that..
**** all that, I was just trolling. Bring the Man to build a mother ****ing wall! **** yeah!!

Where did I say anything
What words did I use and when
Because I am high and make no points... but joints
I just love socialism and all things socialistic
All other points to that are negated and distractions
End post...end Ztir

Do you have 'city' and 'county' taxes as well?

Loony is tanking
Food prices are skyrocketing
Banks going NIRP
Oil sands are a bust
And in middle of housing bubble
They got it all worked out
I am most impressed with skyrocketing violent crime and suicide rates in oil bust areas

yeah some people really abuse ei with seasonal/contract work.
im no welfare expert but people seem to get by on it, esp if they pump out a few kids.
