i need to get some mead sometime. my favorite beer store in ohio carries some, but i walk out of there with at least $200 in beer (usually 2x that) i either forget or suddenly get wallet shy on dropping ~$20 or whatever it costs on a bottle of mead

Picked up a six pack of it at Waldbaums while looking for something new to try with dinner. It's OK. Not my favorite - but not TERRIBLE either.

Right now I am drinking another Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and it's not tasting so bad today. :shrug:

of any of these are in your area, give them a shot:
Troegs Nugget Nectar (great drinkable high-hopped amber)
Bells Hopslam (wonderful DIPA balanced by honey sweetness)
Sam Adams Noble Pils

for the SS Nut Brown lovers out there, try Smuttynose Old Brown Dog and Smuttynose Porter...so much better without the funky yeast strain SS uses in all their beers.

prepped some Stone Smoked Porter Stew tonight for the slow cooker tomorrow, fine beer but may through some more in tomorrow morning to see what goes down.

thursday going to a Stone beer/artisan cheese pairing event, have done numerous belgian/cheese pairings before and they are quite awesome.

also got my half case of Deschutes Abyss and four (aged two years already) of these today: Gratitude - East End Brewing Company - BeerAdvocate

Overall, the chocolate Yeti takes the cake. Easily my favorite beer. Choklat Stout and Breakfast Stout were also incredible. Cherry Saison and Fort Collin's were pure fail, but everything else was delicious.

edit: Sam Smith's Organic Cider has been a regular in my fridge lately.
 
I like big, BIG beers. Samuel Smith makes some great stuff, but everything I've sampled comes out a little thin. I'd love to try some of their barleywine.
 
I cant get over how thin all their beers are, and how their yeast strain kind of makes makes everything taste the same with that metallic aftertaste.

Fuller's London Porter is much, much better imho.
 
Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout. Pretty good though it's made in Vermont. I say watch out Catlyn!



Man it was so good I had flashbacks of singing "you lost that lovin' feeling" to some chick with a bunch of other armor officer candidates at Hurricane O'Mally's back in 1993. Man, crazy stuff.

Bought a bottle of Founders Imperial Stout yesterday - will be trying soon.

Also tried some Brewdog Bashah and Capital EisPhyre on tap last week. Bashah was a bit smokey and I don't think I would try it again, but EisPhyer was a nice Eisbock and reminded me a bit of Airheads or some kind of candy like that.

weird on the eisbock airheads thing...split a bottle of Bashah last night and had it at a tasting/cheese pairing event tonight, good stuff but not subtle at all. need to pickup a bottle of it to age for at least a year, maybe two.

Founders RIS is good stuff, that brewery cant do any wrong.

got a few things in a trade from from New Glarus today, weird little brewery out of Wisconsin...
 
Last pack of goose isle nut brown wasn't near as good as the first several I bought, either that or the taste is getting old to me.
 
lay off the Nut Browns...GI Bourbon County, Sofie (saison), or Juliet (wild ale) are about as good as it gets for the style. Great brewery, wish it was readily available around here.
 
Well, after buying a case of Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale - I have decided that I don't like it that much anymore.

I see what Stigs is saying about thin and metallic aftertaste.

Back to the drawing board!
 
they arent bad beers by any means, i'd love to try them fresh from the brewery as opposed to what we get here

dont think its even the style, i've had plenty of other classic English beers and they are quite good
