no way man. dutch tulips are just useless. gold is super useful and when the global economic crash comes, everyone will be willing to trade food and water for gold.

I've always found it fascinating how people take things that are dynamic in nature and twist them into a doomsday result of "OMG ITS A WHEN NOT IF". Wait long enough and eventually anything will occur. Whether its sooner or later is all that matters. The goal is to prolong the inevitable.

Sad news my friends. The Sun will turn into a red giant and destroy the Earth. It is not a matter of if, but when.

according to your theory of how things work, the romans should still run everything.

As a percentage of our GDP military expenditure is small compared to a lot of countries. So military isn't as big a drain as you'd think just be looking at the absolute figures.

now while i know absolutely nothing about world markets and such things, and the chances of this all occuring i have no idea. Although, it does look pretty bloody bad at present for the U.S. I tend to look at these threads differently then most of TW. Well then the americans viewing this thread. What do i see in this thread? a canuck who is totally scared cos his economy is the one that is tied the closest to the rises and falls of the U.S. So while if the USD crashed it would screw a bunch of the world, it would screw canada the most behind the U.S. That is why orby posts these threads. Its not (as some people say) that he "hates america". He knows he is in the same boat. And that righly scares the crap out of him.

True, but on the other hand, one could make the argument that our military strength should be proportional to that of the rest of the world's, not to our own prosperity.

That's why I said proportional.

When russia ramped up its military in the cold war, it was advantageous for us to match it. The reverse seems logical to me. You can't tell me that there are no disadvantages to having high military spending.

I agree that a collapse of the dollar is a distinct possibility though hyperinflation

I can barely see the key squares, but it looks like over half our spending is for welfare.

Things look bad right now for the US, yes. However, its not like it is going to stay bad. You do realize that if the Dollar collapsed then the US market would collapse, and there is so much dependent upon us that **** every would then fail. Basically the dollar can't fail because the US market can't fail.

When we get a new president in, and he stops spending trillions more than we have, well get the debt paid down, dollar goes back up and everything will be ok.
