Yeah she's definitely too dumb to have done that.

TEPCO has reported they have electricity to the site now. They just have to connect it to the reactors and check whether all the pumps, etc.. work.

FngrBANG 03-18-2011 16:02

don't forget to check the breakers

I realize its procedure to shut down the reactors, but their primary back up was inoperative. No power, no cooling, disaster. A nuclear power station melting down because of a lack of power is ironic.

I'm imagining pot-bellied jeans-wearing Japanese with their ass-cracks showing wearing bandanas and listening to country music pulling up in a beat-up Toyota pickup. Empty Asahi cans will clatter out when they exit the truck.

FngrBANG 03-18-2011 16:10

The japanese never take anything seriously...

Iodine only protects against radiated iodine 131 particles which only remain dangerous for 8-30 days. It's the radioactive cesnium particles that stick around for thousands of years.

Been hearing reports of iodine overdosing which is a bit ironic.

No... No its not.

Furthermore your confusion about the reactors being shut down and why is pretty funny.

groundzero 03-18-2011 16:24

Using the word ironic while calling for cessation of irony.

How ironic.

NEWS ADVISORY: Tokyo Electric apologizes for high radiation levels in some food

NEWS ADVISORY: Traces of radioactive iodine found in tap water in Tokyo, other areas: gov't

(Reuters) - Japan confirmed the presence of radioactive iodine contamination in food products from near a crippled nuclear plant and ordered a halt to the sale of such products from the area, the U.N. nuclear body said on Saturday.

"Though radioactive iodine has a short half-life of about 8 days and decays naturally within a matter of weeks, there is a short-term risk to human health if radioactive iodine in food is absorbed into the human body," the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement.

Looks like one of the reactors that had a hydrogen explosion (there was more than one, right?).
