I just don't understand how that's even possible. Those currents would just bash you up against stuff until you were hamburger, if you weren't smashed between two big objects first.

Dude is either Aquaman or he was lucky and his town had a slow flood vs the raging torrents in most other areas. Still cool either way.

Sounds to me like he went in after the tidal rush. How, he managed to get to two houses that were under a couple meters of water on his own, quickly, with the amount of debris, I have no idea.

URGENT: Radioactivity 10,000 times the limit found from groundwater: TEPCO

A radioactive substance about 10,000 times the limit was detected from groundwater around the No. 1 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Thursday.

A Tokyo Electric official said the radiation level is ''extremely high.''

Got Haggis? 03-31-2011 12:32

yep - armchair nuclear scientists.

(it goes both ways though, there were also people freaking out - really it is somewhere in the middle)

What limit? If it's the vertical limit it's just a bad movie.

I'm assuming that they are talking about the 'safe allowed limit' for water.

Like they found beef to be slightly above the limit:

"The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said 510 becquerels of radioactive cesium was detected in beef from Tenei, Fukushima Prefecture, above the 500-becquerel legal limit set under the food sanitation law."

According to PEER (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, the new standards would drastically raise the levels of radiation allowed in food, water, air, and the general environment. PEER, a national organization of local, state, and federal employees who had access to internal EPA emails, claims that the new standards will result in a ***8220;nearly 1000-fold increase for exposure to strontium-90, a 3000 to 100,000-fold hike for exposure to iodine-131; and an almost 25,000 rise for exposure to radioactive nickel-63***8221; in drinking water. This information, as well as the emails themselves were published by Collapsenet on March 24.

Chernobyl was such a huge disaster because it the rods were wraped in carbon if i remember correctly. The carbon set fire and caused actual radioactive smoke (not steam) to enter the atmosphere.

This will never reach chernobyl levels. Is this ****ed up, yes, but it will never be even close to chernobyl.

FAILURE!

Tokyo (CNN) -- A first attempt to plug a cracked concrete shaft that is leaking highly radioactive water into the ocean off Japan failed Saturday, so officials are now exploring alternatives, spokesmen for Tokyo Electric Power Co. said.

Power plant workers had been trying to fill the shaft with fresh concrete, but that did not change the amount of water coming out of the crack, the spokesmen said at a news conference that ran late into the night Saturday.

Their "plan B" is to use polymers to stop the leak, the spokesmen said. A Tokyo Electric expert will visit the site Sunday morning and decide what polymer to use before the work begins.

Workers will then break the shaft's ceiling and insert the polymer in a different spot from where they tried to place the concrete, they said.

things were being blown our of proportion... the reactions at the time would have been way over the top for what's going on now, and what was going on then was significantly less serious than whats going on now.

just because it got worse, doesn't mean the reactions were appropriate, or correct.

thats such a better response.

This is worse than TMI.

Detox.enD 04-02-2011 21:28

there's a difference between knowing something is serious, and pretending something is way more serious than it is. surely you can tell the difference?

i prefer to sit back and wait for the experts to tell us what went wrong, why, and what the entire impact will be.

the rest of you are the sheep the us media placates.

bunch of alarmists. your lives must be boring.
