Prayer itself does not; however if someone who is fighting an illness has their emotional state lifted by knowing people care (perhaps praying) then it puts the body in a better place to heal.

Too bad amRam doesn't agree with it. Because he doesn't just stop at "we don't know", he goes on to say "therefore not physical".

A donkey talked
A man lived in a fish
The sun stood still for a day
A woman was turned into salt
A snake talked
A man rode a tornado into heaven
Hundreds of thousands of animals lived on a 500' boat
Water droplets didn't refract light until that boat landed on a mountain
Plants grew before there was sunlight
Tooting a horn and yelling will cause a city's stone walls to collapse
Zombies wandered around Jerusalem

But anthropogenic climate change, human evolution, and the SARS-CoV-2 causing a pandemic are just a bunch of overhyped bull****.

Go go Tribalwar

Hey look, a strawman.

That's what people who are correct and intellectually honest use, I hear.

amRam 10-15-2020 19:12

Discussions with you always devolve into bull**** semantics and nitpicking words. We've reached a point where you're basically telling me that consciousness is physical. I suppose music and poetry and storytelling are then also physical, like dreams and ideas, insofar as they require a physical body and a physical world to exist in.

Falhawk if you needed a quick crash course in why discussions about religious ideas are fruitless, amapedo summarized it for you succinctly.

"We don't know how it works" and "it's not physical" are two very different sentences that mean two very different things.

Pretending that this is a minor distinction or nitpicking is not going to make you look better.

You'll also note that I never stated that consciousness is physical. I asked you how you concluded that it isn't, and all you had was god of the gaps.

Thanks for proving my point.

amRam 10-15-2020 19:27

I said it doesn't occupy the space of the physical sciences. Tell me you're not refuting this please....

The fact that consciousness is not physical goes without saying.

To both of those, I ask again: how did you come to that conclusion?

And try not to give me god of the gaps this time.

Well, and I'm saying this to take his legs out from under him and and also acknowledging that it is an ******* response, consciousness is not a physical understanding yet, but the simple fact that all of our chemical processes are in fact physical means that at some point we might have a clear link.

You can stipulate that consciousness is a manifestation of physical processes. Our shared consciousness, our abstractions and ideas and our perception of the reality around us, is not physical.

Humans across all times and civilizations developed remarkably similar belief systems independently of each other. If you don't find that borderline miraculous and worthy of exploring on a philosophical level so be it.

It's certainly by no means proof of some physical deity at all, nor should it be construed as an effort to that goal.

Same for me when I was little. The church has been part of the USA all these years. The flaw is the stories of the bible have nothing to do with modern times. They are fairy tale stories, which the pastor uses to show the power of God. They represent a land that has nothing to do with the USA. Yet people go to Church to hear the stories. They tide money and give their time out of guilt. Doesn't stop the riots and violence happening today. So what good does preaching stories from 2k years ago matter? Oh, it's a test, a challenge from god, his way. Right.

Thanks. I can take it one step further. There are religions started in the USA, but most are whacked, jokes, or cults.
List of religious movements that began in the United States - Wikipedia
Look at the religions of the 21st Century, they are jokes. Needs to be a new book that teaches common sense, morals, and history of the USA so kids follow it.

The only thing I asked you is to explain why you believe the things you say.

That you find this a stupid question shows how little you care about truth. Once again,

The US actually DOES have their own religion.

It's called secular humanism.

(But one could still argue that this isnt uniquely a USA thing.)
