if the country were smart there'd be a VAT on imported goods that compete with locally made goods but good luck getting anything that increases prices through congress

Trump should employ illegals to build the wall with the promise of citizenship upon it's completion.

lol so I looked up what you were talking about:

"There also would be a 10% pretax profit margin for the contractor. Taxing that at the 15%
business rate yields 1.5% of project cost. Adding that to the taxes on wages yields 13.82%,
slightly above the 13.69% tax credit. "

It is using the expected profit margin on the job to help explain how the tax revenue will recoup the costs. Your understanding is wayyy off base

Without that profit margin the plan doesn't pay for itself. So it wouldn't be revenue neutral. The expected profit margin also seems overly ambitious.

I think 10% profit margin is way off base, but if it's 2-3% it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in the tax revenue. Instead of corporate profit it is salaries or material purchases from other companies that are increasing their revenue instead.

I didn't read the whole thing though so I'm not judging whether or not it makes sense, just that it most definitely is not some guaranteed 10% pretax profit to contractors.

cael 11-29-2016 15:06

it's govt work so u just use subcontractors to obscure costs and hide the profit

they be making more than 10% garrenz

By building their cars in non-union states, they save on average about $1800.00/car. This not only translates to lower prices and higher profits, but also allows the company to invest in higher quality materials and trim. That's why American made foreign cars are still better than domestic union state cars.

If you're able to keep the unions out of the process, the phones will be comparable price wise.

HaPpY 11-29-2016 16:44

Come down to Earth, friend.

And so begins the argument over protectionism

Koreans make some damn cheap vehicles.......some so cheap they don't pass our transportation safety guidelines and can't be purchased in America.

We also have import tarrifs on vehicles that are not at least "assembled" inside of America.

We have similar tariffs and restrictions on just about everything in and out of this country. This is how our economy has functioned for well over several decades now. Getting more prohibitive and selectively restrictive as the years go on.

Customs duties in the United States - Wikipedia

That is why I laugh at this concept of what we have being free trade. That Americans working abroad, but being forced to pay taxes back to America from wages earned abroad, is somehow open borders. There is only one other (tiny) nation on the planet that does this toward its citizens.

Everything is already about protectionism and one way benefits. To the point that you can hear the giant sucking sound and vacuum of glaring discrepancies and exploitation differences between nations now.

I mean ffs we can't even have two robots fake battle against one another without it costing 300-500k to ship them and endless amounts of customs paperwork explaining what every god damn part and pipe is about.

Megabots Update: Shipping a Weaponized Mech Is Hard

Quote:

We can say that the duel is still on, though delayed, and we***8217;re working as hard as we can to sign all of the contracts and lock it down. To give you guys an example of why this is so difficult to work out, transporting one team***8217;s robot by air to the venue looks like it will cost around $200,000 to $300,000 round trip ***8211; half the cost of what this Kickstarter raised. Transporting the robots by sea is a more cost effective option, but we would risk having the robots arrive rusted, damaged and non-functional ***8211; a month or two after we ship them.

We have barcodes and custom labels on all of the hydraulic hoses in our robot.
We don't have free trade. We have protectionism favoring the few at the cost of the many. This is just the next inevitable evolution of that. Everyone is scrambling to preserve their nut before everything has been given away now.
