No idea where CNN got that 20 millisevert/hr thing. Japan's safety agency seems to be taking readings 1/2 mile from the plant, away from the wind so they say it has dropped to 250ish microsevert.

LiveLeak.com - Video of Japan earthquake actual cracks in the ground moving
2nd half of the video is the craziest. I would not want to be on reclaimed land in an earthquake. |

Awwww, you can't fool me TF_Flyersfan. I know you still love me. :) But seriously, all the media scare crap should be embarrassing and insulting to us as intelligent individuals. It's pretty sad that anyone reads headlines like "Possible Chernobyl" or "Radiation found in California" and buys into it. I think this video illustrates how I feel about everyone panicking... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOG2MHPQFqY |

It's been a week, Japan still isn't back to normal and the death toll is now over 6,500 with nearly another 10k missing.
IAEA is leaving people to monitor radiation levels at the plant. |

LGBR took his lumps and I don't think he's even been on TW for days now hopefully everyone he knows over there is ok but I say he should be allowed back in the thread with time served |
Japan's nuclear safety agency says there has been a level 5 incident at reactors 1, 2 and 3, and a level 3 incident at reactor 4, of Fukushima Daiichi.
An example of a level 5 nuclear event was the March 28, 1979 Three Mile Island in Harrisburg, PA, where design and operation errors lead to partial exposure of nuclear fuel rods and partial meltdown. As a result, radioactive gases were released to the atmosphere. |

I think its ironic that the nuclear disaster is a direct result of turning all of the reactors off.
|
the reactors are already surrounded in concrete and steel...

No no, he meant ironic in the Alanis Morissette way.

Local WGN was showing commercials during the Chicago Bulls game saying radiation was detected at O'Hare airport. The first two commercials were real ambiguous. I personally knew right away that it was damn near impossible it was Japan unless it was brought back from Japan on contaminated goods and even then the risk would be minimal, but I know how idiots are.
The last one before the broadcast mentioned it was a false alarm. I wonder if people were *****ing at them for the alarmist headline in a pathetic attempt to get people to watch their news. I am writing up a email right now to ***** at them. I am so sick of irresponsible journalism. |
