Anyone who argues such doesn't know that we're not a democracy, which makes them barely worth talking to about politics.

JoMo 12-09-2016 01:43

But.. but.. but...

http://www.usnews.com/news/politics/...-than-clintons

*Over the course of the primary and general elections, the Trump campaign raised about $340 million. That included $66 million that the billionaire businessman contributed from his own pocket. The Clinton campaign, which maintained a longer and more concerted fundraising focus, brought in about $581 million.

The final FEC report showed the extent of the Trump advertising splurge. The campaign spent nearly $39 million on last-minute TV ads and another $29 million on digital advertising and consulting work done by Parscale's firm.

Clinton's campaign placed a far greater emphasis than Trump on television advertising, a more traditional way of reaching swaths of voters. She spent $72 million on TV ads and about $16 million on internet ads in the final weeks.

Trump MAGAing by lying about the # of jobs then ****ting on the union chief.

I miss Douglas Adams - he would have been awesome during the Trump campaign. Early on I drew the comparison between Trump and Zaphod. I just noticed the "orange sash" bit. Too funny.

Quote:

President of the Imperial Galactic Government
The President is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

An orange sash is what the President of the Galaxy traditionally wears.

On those criteria Zaphod Beeblebrox is one of the most successful Presidents the Galaxy has ever had. He spent two of his ten Presidential years in prison for fraud. Very very few people realize that the President and the Government have virtually no power at all, and of these very few people only six know whence ultimate political power is wielded. Most of the others secretly believe that the ultimate decision-making process is handled by a computer. They couldn't be more wrong.

Nancy Pelosi called Trump to talk about women’s issues. Trump handed the phone to his daughter.

We are a democracy.

Just not a direct democracy.

Burned.

JoMo 12-09-2016 03:29

Sounds like a good plan.

The USA is a Constitutional Republic.

Fool 12-09-2016 12:11

Probably a link. I mean you could just go to wikileaks and type in their names to see what pops up.

Kerosene31 12-09-2016 12:13

Just googling one (don't mess with Wolf Blitzer - he's from my hometown!)

DNC staffers wrote questions for CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer when he interviewed Trump, new batch of 8,000 WikiLeaks emails reveals | Daily Mail Online

DNC sends questions to Wolf to ask Cruz and Trump in interview.

Just curious - those of you that support Trump - are you on board with Trump primarily choosing people that donated heavily to or supported his campaign early on to all of his cabinet positions? Or were you expecting less cronyism from him (compared to what we typically expect from politicians & what's been referred to as "pay to play" politics)?

havax 12-09-2016 16:00

meh

Clinton thank-you event for top donors leaves some grumbling they didnt make the cut - The Washington Post

Eggi 12-09-2016 16:02

Right...so how do you feel about Trump exhibiting the same quid pro quo type behavior in his selections? Especially choosing goldman sachs execs & establishment ppl like Rince Preibus?

SuicideSnowman 12-09-2016 16:05

There's a big difference between hiring these people and taking their money in exchange for favors and policy changes.

Eggi 12-09-2016 16:07

So you don't think he's rewarding them with coveted positions (eg favors) for their support/donations? It seems in some cases he's selecting people that aligns with some of his campaign rhetoric (eg putting an anti-epa guy in charge of the epa), but in almost every case he's selecting people that supported him early on or supported him with big financial support.

What Trump's Cabinet picks reveal | TheHill
(i have no clue if the hill is left leaning or right leaning...just the first google article i could find)

SuicideSnowman 12-09-2016 16:09

Or he's hiring people that have experience in their respective fields. If he does the things he says he was going to do, which he has already shown a willingness to fight for jobs to stay in America, I don't give a **** if he has Hillary Clinton on his team.

coombz 12-09-2016 16:10

it's lame but who would've honestly expected anything different?

it's all in the game yo

Eggi 12-09-2016 16:15

Yeah - its not anything different than what any other president does when filling his cabinet, i was just curious if supporters were ok with how he's been filling those positions or if they feel like he is basically breaking his promise to 'drain the swamp' by continuing the tradition of rewarding people who supported him (esp financially) with coveted cabinet positions

SuicideSnowman 12-09-2016 16:17

I never took drain the swamp to mean only hire outsiders that have no experience in politics.

would you kindly provide proof of all the names of the people he's appointing and their respective donation amounts here in this thread so i can analyze? thanks.

Eggi 12-09-2016 16:19

I don't think anyone did - i think trump supporters did believe there wouldn't be this kind of blatant quid pro quo type behavior exhibited, which is why i was curious about what you & other trump supporters thought about the selections.

See the link I posted from 'thehill'...again no clue whether thats a left leaning or right leaning site.

edit: side note...nbcnews must be watching my posts because they just put an article about this very subject on the front page...

I'm fine with it so long as the person hired is A) Capable of doing the job, and B) The best or one of the best applicants for that job.

I find that far more comfortable than say giving someone a seat on an intelligence board on the use of tactical nuclear weapons because they gave someone a quarter of a million dollars.

Maybe he's hiring these people because he feels they are the best for the job. I can see how this might be confusing to somebody that supports a candidate like Hillary who makes all decisions based on monetary donations.

Odio 12-09-2016 16:30

that's how i feel as well...And, it seems like (as much as I vehemently disagree with trump's policy positions) he is picking people that align with his major campaign policy positions. I'd like to see a more diverse group than just straight trump loyalists though. I don't get the impression he's seriously considering anyone that didn't directly support him during the campaign.

Dangerdoggie 12-09-2016 16:34

I don't care about corporate cronyism, at least he's not filling his cabinet with radical muslims behind the scenes. Hillary "I've been hacked by Russians" would be ramping up going to war with Russia as well.
