The Democrat primary isn't some historical oddity. ~30% of the nation identifies as Democrat so you got a likely 27% of the nation that will vote for Hillary. Past performance isn't some guarantee of future events obviously but they can still be a pretty damn useful reference point on.

Search enough and you'll find a poll saying just about anything. A few predicted Kasich winning big in multiple states.

Elections are hard to predict when you have a wild card like Trump, but basically a large number of people sheepishly follow a party. The thing usually comes down to a few battleground states and some voters in the undecided middle.

Exit polls look close in WI for Trump/Cruz. Trump won late deciders by 2% in one poll. He usually does very poorly with late deciders.
