Reports of 6 foot wave (Tsunami) near Wake Island/Midway.

Fonzie 03-11-2011 06:16

My friend commented on the earthquake: "We may have lost some Pokemon."

Facts please with links.

Code4 03-11-2011 06:21

poor wake is just a very small atoll too. with a runway on one leg of it and the rest of the base on the other. hopefully the people stationed there will be ok.

Arachno 03-11-2011 06:23

I was at work when it hit. Literally didn't feel a thing cause I just happened to be outdoors at the time. A few of my co-workers said they felt the room swaying and, not realising it was a quake, assumed they were about to pass out.
None of the trains were stopped on my way home and it looks like everything was business as usual. Except every channel on TV is covering the devestation further north and i've gotten about a million text messages from friends asking if I'm ok.

Pretty mild here, no damage. Gonna go shower and go out for a beer cause it's Friday night.

This has been a report from Nagoya.

cael 03-11-2011 06:27

Glad to hear from you :sunny:

Was a miscommunication, they corrected it.

Pacific Tsunami Warning Center indicates a 0.5-meter wave struck Wake Island, and a 0.8-meter wave struck Saipan.

AlJazeera Engligh has a Jap PM saying they can't cool a nuclear reactor and do not have enough electricity to get water into it in order see an emergency shutdown through. They said there is no current danger of a leak but if they can't start up the pumping they could be in deep ****. They also declared a nuclear emergency in relation ot this reactor.

Scary ****.

heh, the news feeds are pretty nuts with the tsunami footage.

i was supposed to be in tokyo since yesterday through today, but my buddy and i ran out of money so we came back on wednesday.

not sure whether or not to count my blessings or feel kinda bummed for not having been there to experience it (since japan is pretty prepped for earthquakes)...

trying to get a hold of my japanese classmates via facebook (majority are from tokyo/around tokyo/sapporo)

All of the trains are shutdown.

According to word of mouth, something fell down in Yokohama station and injured about 10 people.

People here are rattled like 9-11 just happened.

We are being told that another aftershock will hit any minute.

I hate Japanese people so this whole disaster thing is great.

samuelk 03-11-2011 10:23

Saw some footage this morning of a guy filming the quake from inside his house. Everyone must be in shock, because they were all speaking gibberish; I couldn't understand a word they were saying.

Whimsical 03-11-2011 10:24

Yeah its almost like they were speaking a different language.

I heard a report earlier that a train that was traveling along the coast isn't accounted for. I guess the tsunami just made it vanish.

Fool 03-11-2011 10:27

How's this affecting the market?

Oil dropped below $100 because Japan is one of the biggest oil consumers. And well they wont be using as much for awhile.

samUwell 03-11-2011 10:36

S&P down about 0.2%, NASDAQ up 0.1%, DJIA down 0.2%, yen a little weaker but not by much. Looks like this isn't having a huge impact; even the Nikkei 300 is only down about 1.7%.

Tantric Rex 03-11-2011 10:47

small collection of videos of the water sweeping thru towns, dont know if they have been posted, sorry if they have

4th and 5th videos are pretty crazy
