Monkey_b 03-15-2011 00:03

so what are the odds this will end without serious incidents? still more likely than not?

Swamp Kitten 03-15-2011 00:03

Wait so you're telling me the gas companies here might artificially hike prices at the pump, regardless of a drop in total consumption?!

RIDICULOUS I SAY

I was all excited I thought I'd go to the pump today and fill up for maybe 20 or 30 cents cheaper.

A recent model calculation of the Vienna Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) shows that the air currents will drive released radioactivity from the nuclear plant southwest - exactly on the 240 kilometers away to Tokyo.
Quote:

For one thing, very slow wind speeds of only 10 to 20 km / h predicted. "This means that the radioactive cloud will hang over Tokyo," says Gerhard Wotawa ZAMG meteorologist. On top of that is the city as of Tuesday predicts rain lasting one and a half to two days. Thus a considerable part of the radiating particles would reach the ground. "This is the worst weather conditions that can be imagined," says Wotawa told SPIEGEL ONLINE. Much worse is it really any more."

What are the 10^18 units being released in their assumption? Under what circumstances would that release happen?

Special---K 03-15-2011 00:53

Just found out that one of my cousins was living in Sendai  . I had no idea, I haven't seen the dude in years. He moved over there to teach English and married a Japanese girl.

They got warning and got the hell out in time. I guess their apartment building ended up being ok. More as this story developes

That counter is going up. Not sure if it is legit though.

Was this when I first logged onto it.

Is at 0000,022.16cpm now.

Not sure what regular fluctuations would be though. I will have to read up on it.
