um obviously if you take the energy of an H bomb, which everybody knows like off the top of their head, and subtract it from the energy required to break 6 inches of steel in a dome shape from the inside (also obv) then you get your answer. common sense, moran.

LogRoller 03-14-2011 22:30

no, seriously

I fully understand the scale of what is happening. I'm fairly certain jomo does too. Neither of us are fear mongering, from what I see.

PM about to speak

On Air : jibtv.com

Kingky 03-14-2011 23:02

so how far inland did the tsunami come anyway?

Skipperlipicus 03-14-2011 23:03

over 9000?

JoMo 03-14-2011 23:07

PM says:

High risk of radiation coming out. Everybody move out of the 20 km radius from the plant... 20km to 30 km.. depending on what happens at the power plant, we would like to ask you to remain indoors. Requesting that everyone act very calmly.

Rovero 03-14-2011 23:09

The sign language girl is showing more emotion than these dull old men.

DocHolliday 03-14-2011 23:17

Remember guys radiation cannot go indoors.

Skipperlipicus 03-14-2011 23:19

... all the things i've read about fallout hint that it's better to stay indoors than it is to go outside and play in it.

JoMo 03-14-2011 23:24

Chief Secretary Edano:

#4 reactor has a fire going on. It is not being used but is storage for spent fuel.

30 mins after the incident at #4 reactor, #2 reactor had an explosion. Suppression chamber blast and believed a little radioactive release.

Water injection continuing smoothly.

Milliseverts are up.... 30 between #2 and #3, 400 millisevert at #3 and 100 near #4. Not to be confused with microseverts.

Staff reduced from 800 to 50 at the plant.

High probability that some portion of container vessel damaged.

Asking people within 30 km to stay indoors.

FT.com / Asia-Pacific - France advises citizens to leave Tokyo

Winds have shifted and are blowing out of the North.

Zombie 03-14-2011 23:37

France telling people to retreat?

Tappy 03-14-2011 23:38

 You knew they'd be the first

JoMo 03-14-2011 23:41

400 milliseverts is bad..... The fire must be releasing radiation or something.

Got Haggis? 03-14-2011 23:46

But guys, there is no need to worry

Code4 03-14-2011 23:46

is madagascar still open?

I heard something about the possibility of spent fuel rods catching fire at site 4. If that's true, then that's bad news bears.

1 and 3 are both stable now. 2 had some changed pressure levels but nothing else, unnecessary crew evacuated as a precaution.

4 is apparently the problem child now, which is funny because it was shut down before everything happened.

Tantric Rex 03-14-2011 23:49

With on of the worlds largest economies crippled, Im kinda curious as to why gas and oil prices have not dropped.

maybe you should check on some of the news out of the middle east and north africa.

it seems you've forgotten there's a little bit of activity over that way.

yeah, Edano said they weren't on fire, but went on to say he thinks the fire is what's causing the increased radiation.

JoMo 03-14-2011 23:58

I havnt forgotten it

last week + the middle east + Japan's consumption of oil = high gas prices

this week + the middle east - Japan's oil consumtion still = high gas prices???

so something is wrong there

A major world economy is missing from the equation and the price is the same
