"There was no indication that any of the military personnel had experienced ill effects from the exposure. (Everyone is exposed to a small amount of natural background radiation.)"

Also we know minor amounts of radiation are present in the area from when excess steam was vented purposefully.

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. CARRY ON.

JAPAN is teetering on the brink of nuclear catastrophe amid fears a radioactive cloud could envelop Tokyo's 13million residents.

The Foreign Office warned Brits to avoid the capital as it was feared a SECOND nuclear reactor was heading for meltdown after Friday's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

And there were heightened concerns following a hydrogen blast 170 miles north at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant.
Quote:

Experts were frantically trying to cool No3 reactor to prevent deadly uranium fuel pellets melting. Authorities admitted for the first time that radiation around Fukushima is nearing the level where humans vomit uncontrollably, hair can be stripped from the body - and cancer rates soar.

An explosion in No3 reactor would be far worse than the No1 blast, since it contains lethal plutonium as well as uranium.

I guess this is part of "the normal venting process".

triple 03-14-2011 01:27

like I said, nuclear reactors explode ALL THE TIME. This is perfectly normal.

Tappy 03-14-2011 01:28

That's the mixed-oxide (MOX) fueled reactor too. No worries.

Flyersfan 03-14-2011 01:29

Why are people trying to downplay this ****

Its a ****ing nightmare

Probably will end up being worse than the tsunami/quake itself

CelticMojo 03-14-2011 01:29

Well evacuate the west coast before it's to late..

Nope that's from the explosion at the #3 reactor that was forseen and announced would likely occur before it actually happened. The containment vessel was not breached.

Obviously there are dangers whenever problems happen at a nuclear reactor but the mass hysteria some of you guys have is a little bizarre.

here's a crazy idea, but again I'm probably just misinformed since I'm no nuclear physicist.

Build a reactor that won't explode. At all.

BREAKING: US warships, planes move from Japan's nuclear-crisis coast

US warships, planes move from Japan's nuclear-crisis coast - CNBC

Quote:

TOKYO, March 14 (Reuters) - U.S. warships and planes helping Japan's earthquake and tsunami relief efforts have moved away from the country's Pacific coast temporarily because of low-level radiation from a stricken nuclear power plant, the U.S. Navy said on Monday. The U.S. Seventh Fleet, in a statement, described the move as precautionary measure.
Seems like everything is under control.

Is The Sun a legitimate news source? Seems a little sensationalist.

Obviously. The explosion happened at the building.

The exact same thing already happened at the other site and this was the result:

Yes, the buildings are surrounded with sheet metal.

People just want live in their precious worry free bubbles in life and not face the harsh facts of reality.

One post up, broski. Not a safety measure, but an anticipated explosion due to hydrogen buildup. Containment vessels not breached. If they were every radiation measuring device in the world would be screaming right now.
