IAEA is reporting that Japan was able to get power cable laid to Reactor #2.

I like this question from a commenter on reuters:

Quote:

May I ask gain? What is the thinking for putting the generators down low, where they can be flooded, and the pools up high, where they can be drained? Surely an ocean front site would have been more conservatively set up for the oposite? The pools down low where a tsunami would flood then, and the generators up high and dry?

Oh those silly Chinese buying salt.

We had reports earlier that people were panic-buying salt in China to protect themselves from radiation emanating from Japan, even though the country is not affected. One Chinese woman told the BBC: "My family called from my hometown and said they'd looked for salt like crazy and couldn't get any. I was so surprised. I said: 'But isn't there loads of salt around?' and they said, 'No, because of the explosion in Japan'. I saw we had no salt, so I ran down to the supermarket, and people had already snatched it all up, there was none there either."

I predict a sudden rise in hypertension for people living in China.

they are buying salt because most of their salt comes from japan and they are afraid it will be contaminated with radiation. and i guess a few people think they can eat the iodine in it and it will protect them, heh.

I can't tell if the people screaming were inside the building he was filming from, or inside the building being washed away. I hope it was people seeing that happen.

live wires, heavy debris, cars, trucks, houses, trees, tables, chairs, you ****ing name it

even if you're an olympic swimmer, im pretty sure if you end up in that water your chances of survival are less than 1%

worst part is, **** happens so fast that regardless of how quickly you respond to the situation, your chances of survival are already zero from the get go

Ok, that's enough. This has all gone too far.

This thread has become completely disgusting.

I hope that you will all find something new to talk about besides the misfortune that is occurring over here.

You are all festering and feeding on the latest news of radioactive horror like bloated fatties wolfing down buttered popcorn in a movie theater.

Most of everything that you are reading in the news and all that you know about what is happening in Japan is a complete and utter crock of ignorant ****.

I can easily say that this event has been blown out of proportion with a degree of hysteria that I have never witnessed before in my life.

That last video of the women screaming to her death while the water carried her house away was just gross and unsettling.

Isn't anyone ashamed about how we are acting? Waiting for the next exciting clip of innocent people dying in agony and calling it "news".

**** this thread.

Individual stories and videos like that help people who are far away (us) empathize with the victims. Would you rather that we just had a couple of days of "large magnitude earthquake, destructive tsunami, 10,000 dead or missing" and all moved on?
