South Korea initiated its version of the Defense Production Act 5 days after their first positive case, which just happened to be the same day the US reported our first case. 6 days after that, they were producing 100,000 tests per day, resulting in aggressively testing and contact tracing during their early spike. Positive tests and those in contact were issued quarantine orders coupled with state-paid wage reimbursement for missed work, state delivered groceries, supplies, and even toys for children in quarantine. They all but irradicated the initial spike inside of 2 months.
To date, SK has had less than 75,000 covid cases in total and no lockdown. The US had almost 3 times that many new cases yesterday.
