Well if they're exposed(no water covering them) they're going to give off radiation regardless if they've melted down or not. They would drop water on them to stop radiation exposure. They're talking about the reactors melting down not the used rods, correct?

EDIT: who knows how they'll handle whatever it is that's going on with the spent fuel rods in #4, but I doubt they'll pull a soviet style response. |

Its an easy solution but a hard choice |
the way things are going it sounds like they won't have much of a choice? and would that really take care of the problem?

They are a very proud people you see
Half of them didn't want to end ww2 after we nuked them |
right
and whats a little radiation anyway? hiroshima is a huge city again just 70 years after the fact |

The water is flooded with boric acid. If the water is boiling off and the rods are heating back up, there is a chance they could achieve that, especially if they were damaged in the explosion, or removed from their racks or the racks were damaged. |
70 years is a ****ing lifetime *******

But of course, you already knew that didn't you? |
TEPCO webcam of the reactor is back up... and just as I reloaded to make sure, getting a 503.
Anyway, it's here: TEPCO : 福島第一原子力*電所

cause u should have telekinetic powers that tell you what somebody means to say without them actually saying it |
actually i didn't know that. what do you mean "fill in" the reactor core? how does that work, and what does that have to do with building a sarcophagus?

Yeah, I've been trying to get this across to the other smart @sses of the board (other smart @sses besides myself, I mean).

They intend to fill it with the entire world supply of iodine! ;) |

fngr, can you just pray and have your god take care of this for us plz? the rest of the planet would love you rooooong time |
I think **** got real when there was a 9.0 earthquake
|
we give iodine to humans so that their bodies are so saturated with the stuff that they won't be able to absorb radioactive iodine released into the environment. somehow i doub't they're going to try and "fill in" the core with iodine, it wouldn't do anything. just come out and say it already, you don't have any idea what you're talking about - all the sunday school lessons spent writhing around in itchy woolen pants never prepared you for this.

yea, that's gonna suck for certain people, but i'm sure they'll pick people who are old and compensate their families so well that it will be worth going out as heroes
how have scientists not devised uber-suits that can handle intense radiation yet? don't astronaut suits handle crazy radiation from the sun, etc.? |

Maybe wit h a collaborative focused praying effort GOD will listen. :brows: |
so the US head nuclear official believes based on his US guys that are in japan that there is no water in the spent fuel pond(s?). hype?

In other news, clear on the webcam, which is either good, or really bad as it indicates that they either put water in the pools, or the pools have run dry. TEPCO : 福島第一原子力*電所
ya it looks nice there

There ya go. Problem solved.
I'm going home now. |

seriously though, i don't see why people have to give up their lives... there really should be a suit that can handle those levels of radiation by now
|
so all we need are theoretical exoskeletons lined in lead, worn by Magnus Magnussun
easy enough |
everyone should weigh in on this question:
fukushima: hype or not hype? |
IAEA released information on the spent fuel pools, these are usually kept between 25-40 C.

none are even close to boiling.

can you measure the temperature of water that isnt there in an area where you are not allowed to go?
