DAOC Free Shard Group
 

A few of us are going to play together on this DAOC free shard:
Uthgard - A classic Dark Age of Camelot Freeshard

It's a classic server with no buffbots or dual boxing allowed.
There's around 450 players playing right now, which is pretty damn good on a Midday Monday. The frontiers are setup around a central zone with paths to each faction's keep + towers. It creates some chokepoints, but leaves room for roaming. Can't remember which, but it's setup very much like an Old Frontiers zone that I remember.

Uthgard Herald

The server isn't instant 50, so leveling is required. This keeps people dedicated to characters and guilds. There are bonuses to xp dependant on battleground takings, so it encourages RvR in that way. With a dedicated group and catacombs instances we should be able to hit 50 within a week or so of semi-regular play. (edit: No instances, so leveling is old-school)

I'd love to get a solid 8-man going. Right now Violent and I are thinking of going Albion for now, but if there's enough interest in a different realm we're willing to switch.

Tentative 8 man Roster:

Minstrel - Violent
Sorcerer - Oxyminoan
Cabalist - ??
Cleric - ??
PoleArmsman - ??
Mercenary - ??
Paladin - ??
Theurgist/Heretic/Friar/Reaver - ??

Of course that isn't locked into stone. The only class we're absolutely going to NEED is the Cleric, and I'd like to have an additional off healer, be it another Cleric or a Friar/Heretic. If you're interested list the class and I'll fill it in.

This could potentially be a whole lot of fun. :)

Oxy made an error in the post. The server is 1.80 which is pre TOA/Cata/DR/LotM.

It is also very east to make duplicate accounts, so if Albion isn't your thing many people may want to play more then 1 realm.

What team are you putting together? What do you still need?

Also I assume it's emain. That's probably the zone... and also do any of you run RADAR or do they allow it etc?

Only thing that sucks... I dont really like Alb... meh, w/e.

Let me know if you start to get a solid group forming, I can play healer, however I usually am a light tank, assist train style.

they permaban for buffbots so I am pretty sure they don't let people radar

ill do the cabbie (im assuming you want a body debuff cabbie to go with the sorc) unless **** has changed so drasticly since i have last played and cabbies are now good?!?!

not sure on the buffbot and yeah they ban hackers pretty quickly, since this isint a /l 50 server people tend to actually play a bit more seriously.

I'm playing around on the insta level 60 server. Seems pretty fun so far. Might be good to practice and get a feel for the game again. It's helping me a lot to adjust back to playing.

is this game east to pick up if you never played endgame before?

The learning curve is definitely steeper then current MMO's but most of these guys have a ****ing load of experience in this game.

ahh I would love to play but I have no clue about any races. any suggestions or should i simply not play?

races matter really in this order:

lower level stats (most people will cap attributes at high levels)
racial looks
resists

did they up the max level in daoc to 60 at some point?

no, its only on the customer server... they basically gave everyone and even set of abilities in end game.

we've got:

Armsman: JW (playing aeon beta, might be mia)
Cleric: Resolve
Minstrel: Me
Sorcerer: Oxy
Theurgist: Gundam

So play something that will fit, or really whatever the hell you want.

Ill play the armsmen, looks like we need one and if we have 2 it wouldnt hurt. My son might be able to play too. We duo'd last year around this time and hes familar with the game.

So I got it all working.. and played for like 2 hrs and im level 5... wtf.. leveling on here is ridiculous

the first 5 levels, before you get to pick your class are rough for everyone....expecially if you're an acolyte. Leveling 1-5 with one of those is possibly the most painful experience in a game ever.

Started this morning, at lvl 7 right now.

one thing i really hated about warhammer compared to daoc is that levelling never meant I got any new cool styles or spells. in daoc there was usually some cool higher level spell to look forward to every few levels, or at least some decent / an upgrade of something I had. It was something new I got to use anyway.

In warhammer I didn't feel I got meaningful abilities often enough since I played casually / levelled slowly.
