I just installed Eve. You guys still playing around?

In game name is Valora Swift.

Going to check out the tribalwar channel.

Any good tips? I've been reading the guides.

people might tell you to train learning bullshit skills asap, but fuck that. if you don't find something that keeps you interested, you won't stay nearly long enough to make that time worth it. i say train up some frigs and cruisers, shoot some shit, [strike]pee on barry cuda,[/strike] and find one of the many things to do in eve that interests you the most.

hey :) you can buddy up with me, i'm still learning the basic shit. :\ my game names are: Sophia Torilli, Shakaku Amatsu

Sounds good. I will be on tonight.

I tried doing the tutorial, but it was so boring it. I can see why someone would quit trying to get through that thing. I got the basics and just working through everything else.

quests aka missions are about as exciting as the tutorial. the only tw people that actually stick around in eve are the ones that enjoy the silliness that is pvp, tbh.

oh and verite.

he's weird.

That's what I'm looking forward to. I know it's going to take awhile to get to a point where I'm useful to TW in terms of PvP, but none the less it should be fun.

Starting out do some missions. Try the security and internal security agents. They give out the Pew Pew against rat missions. Try to keep using the same agents in a Corp. This lets you build up standing with a NPC corp. It also lets you make some money and get a little ready for PvP. Although rats are alot easier than real players. Also the rat missions are more enjoyable than watching your ship make jump after jump hauling shit around the universe.

While doing these missions train up your skills. Get some basic fighting skills. Then go training skills.

when most of us started playing in august of 05? we started pvping within a few weeks flying lame frigates. granted it wasn't pretty but the first few ops we went on as complete noobs were probably the most fun i've had, if only for the "holy shit wtf i'm in way over my head but don't really know it yet" feeling.

Do new skills unlock as you train up higher in ones you already have. Like getting spaceship command to level 3. Does it unlock new skills after that for new ships?

 @ Vlasic

i guess you could say that. if you are in game you can check the skill requirements of random things, including other skills. some ships require spaceship command to be level 5, and the skill advanced spaceship command requires it as a prerequisite. but for a new character those are not necessary nor practical to want to fly a ship that would require those in the first place. of course you do get the benefit of the spaceship command skill being level 5, which would be an increase of 25% agility for all ships iirc. not all skills give sweeping bonuses like that, but most of the nooblar skills do so you cant go wrong.

I'm just wanting to get ship with a much larger cargo. I can mine while I'm at work, so I wanted to get a ship just to do that.

You won't get very rich mining in a cargo ship(we call them Industrials, or Indys); they don't have enough high-slots to fit lots of mining lasers.

Looks like you're a Caldari pilot. Pick up a Bantam. It has bonuses for mining. If combat is your thing pick up a Kestrel and missile spam ftw.

Pick up some learning skills and some attribute implants. It'll speed your training up significantly. They're boring as hell but if you're in this game for the long haul you'll thank yourself.

Speaking of training you will want ... no wait ... NEED this program.

EVEMon - Character Monitoring and Planning for EVE Online

This will allow you to plan out all your stuff and get your head wrapped around how skills in Eve work.

Oh, finally, feel free to make fun of Barry and Verite as much as possible also.

Right now using a Bantam. It just has such a small cargo hold. I wanted something much larger :)

There's really nothing that will meet your desires. Anything with a really large hold isn't designed to mine, anything that's designed to mine only has a moderate-sized hold at best. Stick with the Bantam until you can fly an Osprey.
