The Following People Killed Tribes 2...

Da fuk you saying Lou... Tribes 2 needed Classic. Classic was like... life support. You're the historian here, you really agree with that?

T2 didn't need Classic. T2 needed a patch, in the form of 25034. Competitive T2 was centered around base++ in the US, and base in Europe.

Competition Mod (which became Classic) was a failed attempt to bring T1 players to T2 by adding shit like mine+disc, frictionless skiing, and variable gravity. These changes, coupled with the nerfs to their shielding and health, also made vehicles effectively pointless.

All competition really needed was a new version of base++ to work with the last patch, which neither z0dd nor ZOD worked on and was only updated by [AKA]PanamaJack, whose popularity among a vocal minority of the community led to it not being accepted, as "Classic" was the new standard.

The best teams quit and competition died. So yes, I blame Classic for killing T2.

loucypher has a weird view of history

vehicles were still used in classic extensively, even in 7 man. hell teams even used the fuckin bomber on maps like raindance

classic was a lot better for the high level players

Here are a few dozen T2TV casts. Find one where vehicles were used "extensively".

The changes made tanks tin cans. They could hardly survive a bump in the terrain, much less two mine+disc combos. Using one tied up two players and the only benefit was unlimited ammo. As much utility could be had by one HO with ammo pack + deployable inventory station.

No point in using a shrike to grab when frictionless skiing made it easy for even medium and heavy armor to grab at 200+ KPH.

Again, what 7 man team would dedicated 2-3 players for a bomber, and what maps were they playing in Classic on the ladder where they even had bombers where it would have been a good idea to do so?

man who gonna trust a guy who spent time in pubs running around in medium repair pack and UEing people he thought were cheating over arguably the greatest tribes 2 player in history

you are ignorant as shit if you think tanks weren't used constantly (they were, in standoffs). Shrikes were likewise used in basically every map they were available minus beach blitz sometimes. Bombers were used sparingly by 2 people to suicide on point and then jump out to clear the stand. Stack n hack and little definitely used bombers on raindance, we used tanks on every map they were available in standoffs, and we used shrikes on most maps where they were available too.

it's almost like you have no fucking idea what you're talking about when it comes to competition, who would have guessed lol.

I've been following the Annoying Bastard Guide since Classic was released. As for people I "thought were cheating" one of the functions of LUMP was the ability to target anyone that had the hm2.vl2 installed, so if you got a UE from that it pretty much confirms it.

When is he going to start posting here?

Because you have to play competition to see what's going on in matches when you've got things like demos and T2TV.. oh wait.. you don't.

Classic came out and all the good teams left, leaving scrubs like Aurora to take the 7v7 mantle. There was no more 12v12 or 15v15 competition, so the top teams sat on the ladder unchallenged.

But yeah, keep insisting Classic had nothing to do with it.

stack n hack was full of more talent than any 16 man or 14 man team

stick to coding bc you suck at gaming

just admit you're wrong dude and you don't know wtf you're talking about lol

10 years from now the tribes ascend players are going to be bitching about how having 3 classes and 3/4 weapons slots dumbed the game down and made everyone quit

Personally, the over the top elitism from T1 players who mentally abused T2 players killed T2. tee hee hee

Classic was essential to sustaining the game. The new physics were faster and made old boring maps more accessible and fun. Having to make new routes and being able to outpace vehicles made T2 great.

I don't remember this Lou guy, what team was he on for the competitive side of T2?

EDIT: hahahah, bump.

It was already DOA thanks to its publisher rushing a buggy, nonfunctional piece of garbage out on the release date. It worked...eventually, but by then it was way too late to matter.
