One problem I've always had with fast favs...

I never seem to have enough binds. I guess I'll base this off of tribes2's fast fav, it was a pretty good basic system and got the job done. I guess one of its probablems was all the varity. Instead of just 1 grenade there were 3, then you had 2 turrents and 5 changable turrets or whatever the number was. I really had trouble choosing what kind of combination I wanted, and when you throw in the packs things get complicated. Granted tribes2 offered a modifier key for grenades and packs, but the problem was ctrl is just too far away. To change favs I'd usually take my hand off the mouse and hit the numpad. At this time I don't want to be moving my left hand for favs. They're supposed to be fast after all.

So now I propose solutions to my problem. I never got into scripting, so it's never something I've done (should have made more requests I suppose), but I think it'd be nice to page over your favs using the +- on the numpad or the /* or -* or whatever. That way you could add new pages and have all the load outs you need. Something like - goes forward a page, * goes back a page, /# goes to that page. Something like that. Doesn't change the system any, only adds to it. In fact, it's probably already been done in someone's script.

Next there's a number input system. In that you could input a string of numbers and have a compleatly customized loadout on the fly. This isn't really as good as fast favs as far as speed, but it's a much faster way to input a custom one than editing a cs file, or selecting everything manually.
3 armors
Let's just 9 packs for the sake of saying it.
And let's say 8 weapons for the hell of it also.
This system would be for the truly expirenced only. They'd have to know exactally what number represented what weapon:
11123
The above string code is broken into 3 parts. Armor, pack, weapons. This idea is almost compleatly worthless as with the time it takes to type anything. It's kind of like dialing a phonenumber to get your loadout. But on the other hand, it allows flexibility for those who want to cover the vast majority of the arsenal.

And ofcourse there are other solutions. Moving the modifier key closer for instance.

Anyways, just some thoughts on fast favs.

In T1, the Stripped script pack let you have as many favs as you want. You can use the numpad with ctrl/alt modifers for different favs. You can also set faves on the fly. I dunno if that's what you're talking bout. If you want to manually set faves, you can do something like:

$FavesPref::Loadout1 = "2 13 17 21 23 29 39 40 41 42 12 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout10 = "4 15 17 19 21 23 24 27 39 40 41 42 14 16 18 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout11 = "4 15 17 19 21 23 24 31 39 40 41 42 14 16 18 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout12 = "4 15 17 19 21 23 24 30 39 40 41 42 14 16 18 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout13 = "4 13 17 19 21 23 24 29 39 40 41 42 12 14 16 18 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout15 = "2 17 21 23 24 29 39 40 41 42 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout16 = "2 13 17 21 23 31 39 40 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout17 = "3 13 17 21 23 24 27 39 40 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout19 = "3 13 17 21 23 24 30 39 40 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout2 = "2 17 21 22 23 29 39 40 41 42 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout21 = "3 13 17 21 23 24 29 39 40 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout23 = "2 15 17 21 23 29 39 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout24 = "2 17 21 23 24 31 39 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout25 = "2 39 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout3 = "2 17 21 23 24 29 39 40 41 42 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout4 = "2 13 17 21 23 30 39 40 41 42 12 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout5 = "2 15 17 21 23 31 39 41 42 12 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout6 = "2 17 21 23 29 39 41 42 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout7 = "3 15 17 21 23 24 27 39 40 41 42 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout8 = "3 15 17 21 23 24 30 39 40 41 42 14 16 20 ";
$FavesPref::Loadout9 = "3 15 17 21 23 24 29 39 40 41 42 14 16 20 ";

yeah with fast faves, my numpad1 button is duel (disc nade chain epack)

but if u hit Num Lock u can equip whatever pack you wish, very convienent

I have 10 favorites, I can honestly say I use 4 of them 90% of the time(LD-chain, LD-Snipe, SJ-HO, Epack-HO), the other 6 are for farming (MD-RIS, MD-spike, MD-Clamp, MD-Barrel, MD-Pulse, MD-motion)

I usually setup my heavy and medium favorites so that if i hit a RIS(remote inventory station) I will get the desired weapons, thus my HO-SJ and LO-SJ use the same favorite. Also my LO-Rape = my HO-Epack when I hit a RIS etc.

I'm in the same shape as Killjoy..

Cept, I use quick keys to change packs.. for a fav.. Like I have spot "4" as my deployer.. default he's medium and repair pack. I use the ctrl + numpad to change packs/deployables. And also to change flares/cameras.

So if you get the modifiers down with your favs, even 20 is more than you need.. Too each their own. :)

With SKIING and FLYING, it's easy to take hand off mouse to get a quick key in and your velocity continues.

When I actually set it up one time, I had about 14 fast favs.

1. Cloaker
2. Sniper LD
3. Shocklance LD.
4. Medium D, Clamp Turret
5. Medium O, Shield pack
6. Medium D, Spike Turret
7. Heavy D, Repair Pack
8. Medium D, Inv
9. Heavy D, Inv
10. Arena 1, Eng Pack
11. Arena 2, Shield pack
12. Cloaker 2
13. HO
14. HoF

I was able to do almost anything with these configs, I remember I had the sensor pack and turret barrel pack ctrl + combos memorized at one point, and would use those in the rare times I was a deployer.

alot of my favs were the same thing with a different pack. I could never figure how to use many specialty grens usefully, so i stick with concussion for all.

I only have 4 loadouts in T2 and then I switch the pack using Ctrl-Numpad when I need to vary something. Works fine for me. :)

Sounds like there will be less random shit to worry about in T:V, like nades/deployables.

However if super lights do indeed only use 2 weapons, there will be many more loadout combinations.

Also, if mediums are more commonly used you need more loadouts for that.

I don't think 9 is enough, but the t2 way gets the job done with its control and alt modifiers though.

I think t2's way is the easiest to just pick up and run with though. Its not the way I would prefer, but the way I would prefer would be complicated to setup, and should be left for scripters...

Of course I assume there will be enough scripting functionality to accomplish this...

I actually really liked the t2 favs system

honestly...how many loadouts can you actually use/remember? I liked being able to pick LO and change packs...or MSO and equip and INV w/o creating a new loadout.

Hell, in t2 matches I used 2 loadouts (3 counting spawn, I guess)...in pubs it was usually more, but hell, its not *often* you need to go through 25 different loadouts...

Should have tried being a turret farmer in Havoc. :lol: I had numpad and F-keys all filled with both modifiers between Superfavs and spew scripts.

Well, my other question is, why can't fast favs be handled like the v menu is? You'd probably be changing loadouts less than you use v chat. Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to go through a v chat string to change my equipment rather than dedicating 10 keys to it.

I use Poop's Stripped Faves: As many binds as you want, mod exclusivity and you can edit on the fly. The only thing that sucks is dedicating an entire section of keys to inv functions when half of my favs are obscure loadouts I rarely use. :\

So I agree, I'd love to use a fast v chat-based loadout selection system. I imagine something like this is possible for any bindable function w/ a bit of modding.

In T1 can anyone remember if you can edit v menus ingame and save/use the changes w/o restart? Or if you can add functions beyond chat text/wav?

I think the best you could do is to alt+tab to Windows, edit chatmenu.cs, Alt+tab back to Tribes and execute it.

Most people don't know, but Tribes let you have as many favorites as you want by default (the $pref::favoriteList1 just stored a variable w/ the items it needed to purchase)
The Favorites.gui and Options.gui were only designed for 5 favorites though, which is why you only ever saw 5 in default tribes without custom scripts.

You could also edit any .cs file and re-execute it in-game, as long as it was there when Tribes originally loaded (you couldn't create new .cs files and execute them while Tribes was still open), which rocked
