In January of 1999, a new Tribes 1 server came online at the University of Virginia. At this point, UVa didn't have a port firewall on some of their users' machines. One of those machines was Cheater's. He set up a hub, attached a second computer at his desk at work, and with a little help from his brother old_skul, Cheater's Wayside was born. Because of the ridiculously wide bandwidth and short hops to the main backbones of the internet, this server was extremely low ping to all the East Coast T1 players, and many West Coast players as well.

Teams were traditionally "The House" and "The Spanked" at first, as this was the House of Spankings home server. The server was host to many major OGL and other ladder matches, and was regaled as one of the finest East Coast T1 servers around.

Its sister server, Cheater's Darkside, came online in July of 2002.
